- Kim CBrighton, United Kingdom9 contributionsAmazing Authentic Safari. This was truly a magnificent trip. Authentic safari style staying in a very nice glamping tent and next to an amazing lodge looking out over 100 acres of animal savannah with over 300 roaming African animals including Giraffes, Zebra, antelope .wildebeest and many others. Evening African food cooked in front of you was amazing and all the animals coming up for feed. The noises during the night just added to the experience and our guide Kirsty had such interesting knowledge matched with great humour. Looking to take friends next year Thank you everyoneVisited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 5, 2023
- Robert R400 contributionsExcellent Rhino EncounterI am a pass holder at Port Lympne and have always thought it 5 stars (although £5 for a coffee has always been too pricey, but especially now). But today I did the White Rhino encounter, and it was amazing. Zoe, Kafaru’s (spelling?) keeper was fantastic. She greeted me promptly and spoke enthusiastically about the animals under her care throughout. As a trainee keeper myself, we spoke in depth about the Rhinos, being a keeper and Port Lympne and her passion for her job and the animals was clear all the way through. I got to give Kafaru a good scratch and rub, and he was ever so gentle and accommodating of the whole experience. I thoroughly recommend! Thank you again Zoe! - Janice CLondon, United Kingdom7 contributionsAmazing giraffe safariMy daughter and I went on a giraffe safari which was a 70th birthday present for me. The experience was fantastic, especially being able to feed the giraffes and see them very close up. Our guide, Becky, was very friendly and knowledgeable and really enhanced the experience. Thank you, Becky. As there was less than ten of us, we went in a Land-rover truck which I was able to climb into despite arthritic hips. I would thoroughly recommend a visit to the reserve but do bear in mind that it is quite hilly so may not suit some people with limited mobility. You can hire a buggy to drive around in or go on a safari (recommended!) if you can't walk far. I would have liked a few more sign posts around the reserve eg. we had trouble finding the waiting place for the safari and a sign at the waiting area would have helped. It would also have been helpful to have the opening/closing times of the cafes/restaurants on the map. However, these are minor issues and we thoroughly enjoyed our day.Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 28, 2023
- Me and him34 contributionsGorilla Experience at Port LympneAbsolutely Amazing Gorilla Experience today. This was a birthday present from my husband and I was blown away! Fern was our zoo keeper and she was so knowledgeable, friendly and made the whole experience just perfect. We walked up on top of the enclosure and fed the gorilla's who were outside. We then went inside and looked down on the gorilla's and feed them again and listened to Fern. I would whole heartedly recommend this experience, it went way above my expectations.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 28, 2023
- Noah R1 contributionIt Is All Going To A Brilliant Cause For Animals And Not Human EntertainmentPort Lympne is an amazing reserve with large enclosures which I still think many zoos are lacking. Even though, it was expensive I know all my money was going to a good cause as they are the only zoo or reserve with howlets that rewilds captive animals into there freedom of the wild and more zoos must be like this. I also think that the reserve is not like anything else I have ever seen and if felt like you ere transported into Africa and Asia because we were being driven around. (Giraffe feeding was amazing).Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 9, 2023
- MichelleWarwickshire, United Kingdom166 contributionsA huge park with happy animals but overpriced food & drink facilitiesA very large park with huge enclosures for the animals. It is so nice to see the animals being kept in such large spaces meaning they can live more naturally in captivity. We did a safari tour which was fun and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. We also seen amazing views over the sea to France whilst on the safari truck. As the enclosures are so big on this park it was difficult to see many of the animals. The park is large and on a hill and we did find walking the distance with a toddler tiring. There were limited refreshment stops (some closed when we visited) and the food & drink was extremely expensive so I would advise taking a picnic although, there was no indoor or undercover picnic areas which was not practical at this time of year. The only indoor eating areas were the parks cafes and restaurants that require you to purchase their overpriced food & drinks. Due to the walking distance and lack of baby / toddler friendly facilities for picnic eating I would not return here.Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 23, 2023
- prockh6 contributionsAmazing! If you’re lucky enough to go on safari with Casey - then it’s the day to buy a lottery ticket because it’s definitely your lucky day! We had a safari with Casey and it was amazing! He is intelligent, funny, clever, warm, kind (he loaned his heated hand warmers to a nice but chilly lady) and taught us all so much. Did you know giraffe tongues are blue so they don’t get sunburn? (Giraffes eat a LOT)! Anyway. The the guy is a legend and we loved our trip out with him. Painted dogs - wow! Amazing watching them eat and I didn’t know they even existed! Also. Go feed the giraffes! Casey gently explained how The Aspinall Foundation reinvests to help animal conservation. We were all impressed!Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 25, 2023

Be sure to see tigers and lions near tiger cabins at the top of the zoo…. Seemed to be a little hidden but got very good views…. - Sam IWootton, United Kingdom5 contributionsA Great Safari in KentA fantastic overall experience. Staying at the hotel and use of the buggy was great. The restaurants are of a high standard and all food was excellent. The staff are all very helpful and friendly. It is a beautiful location with lots to do and see over 2 days. The free safari is really good and the best in the UK. You can pay for animal encounters if you wish which are also great.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 16, 2023
- Tracy H35 contributionsreally lovely day out.before i booked i checked trip advisor and was disapointed to see so many bad reviews. i decided to ignore them and book anyway. i haven’t been to port lympne for a few years. we booked online and arrived around 10am. greeted by a lovely man who gave us two more tickets for the safari as we had only been able to book two online. yes there’s lots of walking but we were prepared for that. i have had knee replacements as well and managed fine. we saw lots of animals on the safari and really had a lovely day. we also saw plenty of animals as we walked around the park. the food is pricey so we took our own. we found everything we needed too and didn’t get lost. we really enjoyed port lympne and recommend as a lovely day out.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 12, 2024

We pre booked our visit today and we fully appreciated the weather could determine the amount of animals we saw. We were greeted cheerfully on arrival and had great direction from the staff who were helpful.
The Safari was quite dull, seeing mostly antelope and a giraffe peeping out.
After the Safari and bitterly cold we queued for a long time to get a hot drink to warm us up - only one member of staff in the tiny shack, yet the company stopped taking bookings because they were booked up. Surely this would suggest the staffing they would need.
We then walked round in hope to see lots of animals. We appreciated they didn’t want to come out in the then drizzly rainy afternoon, however, I am not lying when I say we saw two monkeys! No gorillas were to be seen at all. There is little shelter and scarcely any indoor viewing platforms. For the areas where we could view animals inside the animals were still nowhere to be seen. Where on earth were they? Lots of areas sectioned off or shut, cats, gorillas etc.
The only saving grace seeing the lions, and one tiger.
A large group of 17 we came away
Soaked through, cold and disappointed but we accepted it was one of those things, feeling thankful most of us had not paid full price (the exception to this was one of our party having teenage boys that had to pay full adult price)! ÂŁ66 to see very little was dire! But we were of the hey ho opinion.
Only to get home however and find out that they had been operating a rainy day ticket refund which had been applied to other customers throughout today.
Why was this not made clear to us at the time? Deeply disappointed!
Please be aware future visitors.

I love a good Zoo and when we saw that they were offering kids go free it was worth a go. The week leading up to the visit I read many Facebook comments and reviews here about how busy, not worth it, no animals on the Safari, etc so I was a bit worried.
We ended up going on a Friday and left early. We arrived around 15 mins before the park opened and was about 20/30 people deep in the queue at the door. We got inside and through and I asked the lady on one of the tills if it was best to do the Safari first, she advised that we did and I'm so glad we did. We got on the 2nd Safari trip and as we were boarding I looked behind and the queue was massive.
The Safari trip turned out to be excellent, lots of animals seen and a few jokers on the road who wouldn't move. The views were also excellent as was the tour guide.
After the safari, we got off at the dinosaur park which was excellent for the kids to stretch their legs and look at some massive dinosaurs and learn a bit about them. We then followed the route around the rest of the park and saw some Tigers, Gorillas, and other animals.
So TLDR: If the park did not have the Safari it would not be worth it. Get here early and go on the Safari. Still in two minds if I would go back. 3.5/5

Absolutely atrocious experience. Family came from London to visit. We read there was no Safari experience , so looked at the private safari tour which is given as advice to use if you are a day visitor , This comes to £95 per person , so for a family of 6 this would have cost £690 including day entry so realised this was not an option as that was our entire budget for our food and Bills for the Month for a 2 1/2 hr experience. opted for day visitors and saw some Gorillas , Monkeys and Rhinos . Ate at Babydoll Restaurant 3 Pizza and 6 drinks with service charge came to £100. Park Overgrown , Staff Miserable and enclosures looked uncared for and dirty. Also watch out for the Mad Buggy drivers (Overnight guests who get to see everything) as they are a true danger , only a matter of time until their is a serious accident. Won’t ever return again . Wasted expensive day put .

My partner and I visited on 25th/26th May. We booked one of the basic pinewood pods for an overnight stay and a gorilla experience.
Arrival is a little bit confusing, we got sent down to guest services needlessly, but that definitely wasn’t representative of the rest of the stay.
We’ve been to port lympne a few times so we were totally prepared not to get a close up view of all the animals, this isn’t London Zoo so if you’re visiting to see sad animals in tiny cages this place isn’t for you.
We were so surprised to get at least a glimpse of every animal, the safari was amazing and I would definitely recommend booking one, you miss half the park if you don’t. We had Trevor running our safari and his knowledge and anecdotes made it 10x better.
The gorilla experience was well worth the money, you go in with an experienced keeper (I think mine was called daisy? She was great!!) right in to the back end of the enclosure, the gorillas are of course behind a cage, but no more than a metre away from you.
You then go up the stairs and walk over a platform over the top of the enclosure to the roof, where you scatter feed the gorillas in to their outside area, then they come up to the top of the enclosure and you can pour food in to their hands and mouths. (Wouldn’t recommend if you’re scared of heights or a bit unstable as you are very high up)
We booked the most basic overnight accommodation the Pinewood Pod, and for one night it was great, beds were comfy, I would prefer white sheets but you can see why they don’t do it as you could bring in a lot of mud.
The toilets facilities and showers were very clean, and accessing water is so easy as there are taps dotted about near the pods and washing up facilities available.
The pod could have done with a blackout curtain but for the price and how close it is to the lions, we weren’t going to complain.
The pods do sleep four, but I wouldn’t recommend it as they’re not that big.
We got food at Babydolls pizza which was also great, just bear in mind this is very popular for parents with young children, so book after 7pm if you prefer a quiet meal.
Every staff member we encountered was really friendly, as as always the park was amazing and animals looked really happy!
We would return again but are considering Wolf Lodge, as for the price this also looks good.

I checked the website on a smartphone the previous Friday and again on the Tuesday of the visit (I needed the post code for the satnav) which said and still says "We are open every day except Christmas Day!" We drove there but it turns out although it did open, it was closing at lunchtime early on Christmas Eve and they expect visitors to pay for a full day visit even if the site is closing early in 40 minutes. They maintain the main website prominently displayed the information but the mobile one had not when we set off two hours before and still didn't when we arrived. Their advertising is materially incorrect and the organisational culture is "don't give a ...."

Really not sure what all the negative reviews are for, this really is a zoo done properly. Yes the safari is not running which is disappointing but it does state this on the website, personally I don't get why it isn't running as the trucks are pretty big and you could easily limit the numbers or maybe reduce the ticket prices a bit further and offer the safari as an option extra where you book tickets for specific time for an additional cost.
The enclosure are generally really big and give the animals more space than the average zoo. Yes some enclosures appear to be "overgrown" but I think people are missing the point that these are more like the animals natural habitats and give them places to take cover in hot weather or just go hide if they don't want to be display. Because of this some animals we did not see but I would personally prefer to know the animals are happy in an environment which is more like the wild rather than being forced to be on display.
I don't get the complaints about the one way system, if you can read you will be fine. As for social distancing we are all adults you can do this yourself you don't need a member of staff to tell you are going the wrong way or too close to someone and if someone is too close to you I would suggest you could either move away or speak up.
All in all a good day out, I think they just need to figure a way to get the safari going again as I personally would have been happy to pay a little extra to cover the increased costs of running the trucks with less people

Before the visit I read the site so was aware of the restrictions
It stated the safari was closed due to Covid
This was not the case it was closed to day visits but not to those staying over.
The zoo is now littered with lodges everywhere.
There are buggies speeding around with little control. It's just a matter of time before someone gets badly injured
Seems to be about money making which is a shame
As for the animals the ones we saw were lovely
The usual walk is restricted both by covid and the buggy route which not takes up some of the old routes
You will get to see about half of the park
The safari if being run for some guests come be run for all with proper management
It's a shame the zoo has gone this way as I have been coming for years and hate to give a poor review
I hope they take notice!

It is disappointing to read your comments as our focus, as it has done for the past 12 years or more, on the well over 200,000-day visitors we welcome every year; alongside our tens of thousands of short break guests. We aim to provide a memorable experience for all and are proud to put money raised towards the great animal conservation work that The Aspinall Foundation does.
Regarding our safari operation we have currently suspended our complimentary day safaris as it is not possible to operate this within the safe distancing requirements. However we are offering pre-booked safaris in a Land Rover so this is for a small group only. These are available for day visitors as well as accommodation guests.
I note your comments regarding golf buggy usage and would advise that all our accommodation guests are given written instructions and guidance when they are issued with their golf buggies. They are also required to produce their driving licences and sign a disclaimer agreeing to their safe use and reminding them of all our visitors safety.
We very appreciate all feedback whether positive or negative as this enables us to improve our customers experience.
Thank you once again.

Was really looking forward to visiting as heard going things however this place really did disappoint.
We knew upon booking that the Safari was not running “due to Covid” and was fine with that had we actually seen some animals! The lions are hidden, except for a peep hole, behind a huge fence (no doubt done so you have to pay extortionate amount to stay in the lion lodge to get a glimpse of them). Most enclosures look over grown, unloved and frankly like there were no animals even in them.
However, the really disappointing thing was seeing the Safari tours were actually taking place, when we enquired we were told they were for hotel guests and those paying for a private tour only. So clearly this has nothing to do with Covid as many trucks were packed full with the hotel guests and quite a few stood empty not being used (so very easy to social distance) and instead is purely about money. Day guests are treated as unworthy of the Safari tours and certain areas of the park, and it shows! Not a way to treat any guest, we all paid to be there so should be treated fairly!

When weather forced the safari to stop, the zoo reasonably gave us a no-fuss 50% refund - we had already spent 4 hours there. But my daughter was very upset not to be able to see the wolves (apparently only visible on the safari tour), so the ticket office also gave us a top tip on how to see the wolves up close, without paying any more. This turned out to be the highlight of the visit.

Where do I start heaping praise on this place and the work they do. Firstly I think we have to remember this is the animals home and we are allowed to visit them, it is not a zoo. The staff have exceptional customer service and passionate about what they do and all are very knowledgeable. We highly recommend the complimentary safari which lasts around an hour depending on what animals decide to walk in front on various routes but it is beautiful to see them living in natural surroundings. The gorilla feed at midday is your chance to see the gorillas as they just like to sleep and eat and the ranger Will provided a full commentary on them and answers all your questions. We had booked the squirrel monkey experience and huge praise for their keeper Andy who couldn't of been kinder, he took photos for us, answered our many questions, we did not feel rushed and stayed for forty minutes. The whole day was magical, please go and support them, you won't be disappointed.

If you stay in accommodation with a golf buggy, what time can you access the buggy from? I.e if you check into the room at 2pm but arrive onsite at 10.30am - can you use the buggy from 10.30am?

Tiger/Lion Lodge - are they 100% safe? Can the window/glass break?? Tested?
Written July 31, 2023
Yes I would assume the glass is extremely thick and usually the lions/tigers are more focused on their own food.

Myself and my partner have booked to go to Port Lympne Safari Park for my birthday and we was wondering how many times can you book on to go round the Safari? We’ve been to places like WMSP and Longleat and you can go round as many times as you like!

Hi, I’m assuming you’ve got day tickets? The safari trucks go round the reserve at regular intervals, you will need to book. Bear in kind the truck goes to the same area every time. Go to the large wooden hut and talk to the staff there, they’re always very helpful. The trucks take you to the open grazing areas, which are huge. This section is inhabited by bison and lots of antelope species. There giraffes are at the top of the site. There is no other access to these areas other than the trucks. The walk through is only a small area. The site itself is very hilly and quite steep in places. If you stay in the hotel you get a golf buggy which is great for going round the reserve but you have to adhere to clearly marked routes. Hope this helps, have a great day!

Hi can you hire a golf buggy if you are staying in a glamping pod
Written June 1, 2023
Hi ,
I am not sure from looking at options of staying over. I think it was only an option for a golf buggy staying in the hotel bit. But speak to guest services and they should be able to advise. If you are already on site , if you head over from the barn base camp follow the path along you come to the hotel bit and golf buggies probably best to ask there. On the map it is next to the hippo pool which is a statue. But the golf buggy hire point is next to it.
Thanks

Hi
We're due to stay in the Tiger Lodge next month, and so to maximise our time there (given the cost), we were thinking of the takeaway option for dinner. Has anyone had this before and do you have any recommendations on the nicest restaurants for diner/breakfast please?
Also, does anyone have any recommendations on the animal encounters? My mum loves Gorillas but she would also love a hands on experience, and so I'm torn between the gorilla and primate encounter.
Many thanks
Carolyn

I have viewed the gorilla encounter as just a guest on the day and the scatter feed is off the roof of the closure. So one to be aware of if any in your group are nervous of heights. But the scatter feed was great to see, which I think happens 3 times through out the day , and overhearing people coming back down after the scatter feed there is more to the experience in the back area of the enclosure with the gorillas. Which would be awesome. It did look like an incredible experience.

If taking a picnic are you able to leave it in the car, return to collect it and go back through? We have a safari booked so wouldn’t want to have to carry it around during
Written April 27, 2023
Yes I am quite sure you are able to access your car at any point during the day.

Would this be suitable for a one year old? Would we get round the park with a buggy? Also would the safari be ok for him?
Written April 6, 2023
On the Safari you would have to hold your child . Park is big but lovely. Don't think they would allow you to have a buggy with younger children.

I am interested in an overnight stay. But cannot fathom the safety aspect. How do you get to your lodge safely ?
And if there are lions roaming around your lodge; out again ?
And is an open small buggy safe in what is essentially a stay in a lion enclosure ? I cannot understand how it is not an accident waiting to happen. I would love to stay but don't see how it is safe ?

Your lodge is not open to the enclosures but rather has a unique viewing perspective. All animals are safely locked in enclosures so there’s no risk but it’s great fun!
