This was a terrific visit - up close and person with the macaques, which are their main attraction. You get a handful of popcorn when you enter their spacious enclosure and you may share it with them when they are seated on the wooden rails. They seem happy, well-adjusted, playful, and protected. In addition, there are storks, deer, and a... More

Open air research center and refuge for Barbary Macaques Apes. As part of the entry fee, visitors are given a quick safety lecture and access to a handful of popcorn to feed the small apes that wander in the huge (50 acres plus?), wooded, fenced enclosure. Tip: You only get to take one handful of popcorn to feed the monkeys, so make it a BIG handful. The monkeys were surprisingly calm. They sat on the wooden... More

The 200+ Barbary Macaques that live at Affenberg are used in observational behavior research so visiting helps support this important cause - and it is a TON of fun. They have plenty of their own space to roam so they can very easily avoid human contact if they want. We went on a very crowded day and I recommend you... More
