Well worth a visit to Passikuda beach. Can do glass bottom boat trips out on the boat to check on the corals. Will look to visit this place again.

Great beach with lovely sand and crystal clear water... however not much sea life. Lovely walks up and down the beach for hours.

Generally we have been saddened by how badly polluted the beaches on the east coast of Sri Lanka are but Pasikudah beach is generally better than most. Just don’t walk all the way to the southern end which is a bit of a mess

This is the best beach available in Eastern side of the country. Very safe for sea bath. The beach is spreaded all along around one kilometre. So there are lots of opportunities to enjoy.

We came here in October, everything looks pretty deserted and packed up for the season. Food in the hotels extremely expensive, couple of places on the street between Pasikuda and Kalkudah beach, but hard to get fresh seafood. Probably better to come here in the...More

Passikudah Beach Questions (1 Replies)
Hi Everyone Off to Sri Lanka shortly and will be stopping by Passikudah beach for a few days. Im undecided as to splurge on one of the big resorts on the beach, or save money and stay in a guesthouse. Few questions for those that have been may help me make my mind up... - On the beach, are the only facilities those of the resorts ? Or are there little shacks etc on the beach too ? - If staying in a guesthouse, are we able to use the facilities of the resorts eg, sunbeds, bars,...More

Hi there, 1] Well it's a public beach (without sunbeds and parasols, these are in the hotel garden and are moved on the beach by hotel staff on request). Same situation as other resort towns. No shacks unlike at e.g. Hikkaduwa and Mirissa. 2] Yes bars and restaurants a-la-carte. Sunbeds at some resorts by buying a Pool Pass for the day (also included pool access and pool towel). 3] Totally depends on the guesthouse. Our driver stayed in a guesthouse near the junction of the 2 beach roads...More

Wasgamuwa or Maduru Oya National Park (1 Replies)
Hi, we will be traveling to Sri Lanka in September. Our main destination is Passikudah beach, while before that we would like to do a safari. Will be staying for a couple of days in Mahiyanganaya so would like to know which of the two safari parks is better: Wasgamuwa or Maduru Oya. What we do expect from safari is to see different types of animals and see some nice nature. Any tips and help will be appreciated. Regards, Mustafa

Gal Oya (not the other two) if you want a safari from a boat. And the other two if by jeep. All similar wildlife, main large ones are elephants but lots of smaller ones also like crocodiles. <Erik> & [Sandya]

Train from east coast (4 Replies)
Hi after some advice about catching a train from Valaichchenai ( this seems to be relatively close to Passikudah Beach -3km where we plan to stay) to a station as close as possible to Sigriya. I understand no train station at this location but is it easier to travel to gaioya or get to Habarana and then travel the rest of the way to Sigriya by driver/tuk tuk. I am assuming you would have to switch trains once you get into Gai oya to get to Habarana, which from the map is the closer town...More

Yes and in this case you could even use the local train Batti-Maho. It allows boarding at Kalkudah station and also stops at smaller stations like Habarana. All the best, <Erik> & [Sandya]
