- drn123456789101112Worcestershire, United Kingdom4 contributionsVisited Mrs Smith's Cottage for the first time (as part of an excellent event: Heritage Trail Walk, followed by tea & cake, and visit to Mrs Smith's Cottage). The event had been organised as part of North Kesteven Walking Festival and the staff/volunteers were all efficient and welcoming. All were happy to share their knowledge and to chat with visitors. Mrs Smith's Cottage is an absolute gem, "kept alive" by wonderful staff/volunteers, and is a "memorial" to a bygone generation as well to "Mrs Smith" herself. It is well worth visiting and I certainly hope to be back and will let others know about it as well.Thank you so much for your wonderful review, We're so glad to hear you enjoyed your visit to the cottage and felt Mrs Smith's memory was kept alive by the staff and volunteers. We very much appreciate you letting others know how much you enjoyed your visit and hope to see you again soon!Written July 1, 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited June 2024Traveled soloWritten June 29, 2024
- lyndsey19882015Sleaford, United Kingdom3 contributionsWe visited here yesterday on our Wedding Anniversary and it was just wonderful. The staff are fantastic and so knowledgeable. We throughly enjoyed our time there despite the wet weather and loved looking through Mrs Smith's old photo albums and diary entries. I just wish we could of met her ourselves! Also bought some knitted pumpkins from the shop which a very talented volunteer makes. Thank you for such a special afternoon! Definitely worth a visit for all ages.Thank you so much for your lovely review! Just to clarify, Mrs Smith's Cottage is NOT dog friendly; i.e. dogs are not allowed into the actual cottage. Dogs are allowed into the (very small) garden and wait with another member of your party.., and that's all fine, but I think it's a bit of a stretch to advertise as being dog friendly. That said, from the little bit of the cottage I could see from the garden, it looked an interesting enough place to spend an hour.

Thank you for your recent review and for providing feedback about your visit to Mrs Smith's Cottage. We sincerely apologise for any confusion regarding our pet policy.
To clarify, dogs are indeed not allowed inside the actual cottage to help preserve its historical interior. However, they are welcome in the small garden area, where they can wait with another member of your party. We understand that this may not fully meet the expectations of being ‘dog friendly,’ and we appreciate you letting us know your thoughts.
We would greatly appreciate it if you could contact us at mrssmithscottage@n-kesteven.gov.uk with details on where you found the information about dogs being allowed inside. This will help us ensure that all our communications are clear and accurate.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to explore the cottage more fully.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Mrs Smith’s cottage today. Our guide, Dave, was very knowledgeable and gave us a comprehensive guided tour.
The house, garden and visitor centre is fascinating and everyone we met was very friendly. Thank you. We hope one day you will have copies of Mrs Smith’s diary we can purchase too.

A fantastic glimpse into the past and how ordinary people lived. The guides were all very knowledgeable and engaging with the three children in our family group. All three children thoroughly enjoyed the visit especially the hands on laundry special event. This is a very well preserved and run museum and I can't recommend it highly enough!

Really interesting little cottage, recently reopened after renovations. Now has a disabled access toilet for the public and has also started offering workshops. Mrs Smith seems to have been quite a character and the knowledgeable staff bring her to life with stories about her life.

Navenby might not be on everyone's bucket list but this cottage is well worth adding to it. This is a gem of a home, bought in the 1920s for £75 with features dating from that time onwards. Who doesn't remember a 1950s tiled fireplace, a small portable black and white TV or The Archers on the wireless? There's bound to be something here that will jog your memories of growing up in the twentieth century.
The guides are not only knowledgeable about the property, its history and Mrs Smith but are also really enthusiastic. How wonderful to have a job that you enjoy!
And, of course, it's all COVID-safe. An hour spent very happily.

I thoroughly enjoyed seeing how Mrs Smith lived and learning about her history. Sally was my guide around the house and gardens. She was polite, friendly, entertaining, and very thorough in explaining the history of the building and Mrs Smith's life. I enjoyed listening to Sally as much as I enjoyed the lovely little cottage and gardens.

Visited on the recommendation of the charming lady at Cranwell Museum.
Well worth a visit. A lot of artifacts within the cottage and information boards within a new building close by.
Great, informative tour guide. Small shop area. The cottage certainly takes you back in time.

Well worth a visit.
The cottage is a real insight into village life in a bygone era.
Being of a "certain age", we could actually remember some of the contents from our childhood - nostalgia at its best.
The additional anecdotes and input from the extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff/volunteers really bring the past to life - we could almost see Mrs Smith sat in her chair watching us!
An amazing story very well told.

Very interesting old cottage, with many memories of it's former owner, who lived there until she was 102 years old. Diaries and photos to see, activities for children, and Sophie the guide was so knowledgeable, enthusiastic and helpful. Worth booking, as it is too small to hold many people at once, though we stayed well over the half hour, and then found a small tearoom just along the road.
