Great tour. Very interesting!!! Easy to listen to audio guide (kids ages 13, 11, 9, found it interesting as well). Extra info from nice local guides. Kids loved the jacket and helmet.

It was a great experience to walk in the old mine. The guide did a great job and was very informative. The tour is good for all ages. I think everyone should come and see this mine.

This is one of my favorite places to visit. Since I live nearby i have visited the mine many times and honestly from all the mines that i have visited this one still stays my number one. The tour starts with a movie about mercury mining in the town and It's affect on the world. After the tour you get a coat and a helmet afterwhich you start descending into the mine with a guide. The mine itself is kept in original shape showing the tourists It's diversity and technological advantages trough the years of mining. The tours go every hour. This truly is one of the thing you don't want to miss visiting this region.

If you are in this area, swing by to learn about the mining industry. They show a video that gives you a little background before heading in the mines. Don't forget to wear sneakers because some parts can be slippery. We walked down into the mine and learned about the hard work that these guys did, day after day. Afterwards you get to hold a container that is filled with mercury - way heavier than I expected! There are steps that u have to climb back up (around 100) in case you have an injury. I'm not sure if they have an elevator, but you could email them and ask. The staff were super nice and answered our questions.

The mines and the history of them is very interesting. You can visit them with guides tours only. (It is recommended to check the times for the tours online before going there as they have certain times.) The tour we had was very informative and our guide made it very interesting also for our kid who enjoyed the tour as well.

1/8 of all mercury in the world came from this mine, which has been in operation for 500 years (closed in the 80's). Not a major attraction but if you are in the area definitely wortha visit. You can even buy a small lump of Mercury ore (Cinnabar) in the shop. The tour in the old part of the mine takes about 1 hour. You do have to climb 100+ steps (slippery!). Helmet and jacket are provided.

We arrived for the 10am tour on 26th June 2016. Unsure what to expect as the website for this museum doesnt tell you a great deal. Even as we walked in we were not sure what it would be like.

From the moment the movie started the experience took shape. The movie set the scene from how one day a person found this strange, heavy slver liquid in his water. How then an entire area grew out of the mine over 500 years.

The trip into the mine was fantastic, Our guide knew her information and kept the tour flowing and interesting. IT is amazing to see first hand what the life was like and that a tiny little town in slovenia was the second biggest supplier of mercury in the world.

Make the effort to include this tour into your trip. It was very very good!!!

We visited the castle museum, miner's house, Francis Museum of mine engineering and the massive water wheel first ... so it all came together being in the mine. The initial film gives a sense of the history of the mercury discovery, the history of the mine and the uses of the highly toxic mercury.
Then you don a hard hat and jacket: both needed as you descend into damp and at times quite low passages.
The guide shows how the mining was carried out in different eras using sound and dust animations. There are still a number of miners working in the mine to carry out maintenance.
Really interesting.

Interesting tour about the work into the Mercury mine..not suggested for people that are claustrophobic due to the one hour walking in the underground.

This was one of the best turistic tours we have ever had. Great presentation, great guide and great history. We learned a lot. We took the tour for families and it was great. Before the tour we watched the video presentation and then we went to the mine underground. There is a lot of steps so it is not recomended for disabled people. We were given mining jackets and we found this very convinient as there can be a little cold underground and also you can get dirty. The exhibition in the mine is excellent.
At the end you can also buy some souvenirs - all about the mine.
It was a really precius experience.
