Apart of wild scenery there is plenty of mystery places to visit - not necessarly best known. Whereas one may meet the other tourists on Polonina Carynska or Polonina Wetlinska, Solina lake and Polanczyk village, there are plenty of places, still beautiful but rarely visited. We recommend in particular: former and damaged villages of Sękowiec and Hulskie (the path from road 894 towards Zatwarnica on San river bank (bicycle or walk), hills and peaks around Zatwarnica (hours of walk with no people met!, only you, animals, trees and mushrooms - if you like to pick them, of course), fantastic hunting house (own by State Forests - Lasy Państwowe) in Sękowiec-currently Zatwarnica - being in fact the exclusive hotel - loved by German - sometimes there is everything booked for 6 months ahead; the road from Stuposiany to Bukowiec (former village, currently abandoned) and than the path to Sianki. We are visiting Bieszczady yearly, for 30 years but still many areas are for us unexplored.

We spent a week in this area and it was like stepping back in time. The people were all friendly and the pace of life so relaxed we forgot what day it was! We undertook several of the well marked trails and were rewarded with unbelievable scenary. We saw numerous golden eagles, a few deer and the wild bison. We heard a bear (quite scary) but didn't see any Lynx or Wolves.

Fourth biggest national park in Poland, with its authorities seat in Ustrzyki Górne. Deffinitely for hikers minly, with two massifs, called Połonina (Wetlińska and Caryńska) and the highest in Polish part of Bieszczady - Tarnica available to climb by many different hiking trails. This mainly unhabited area couses some problems in public transport, as that basically doesn't exist. Instead ther are small buses waiting for tourists in popular spots, and start their way as soon as the bus fills up, no timetabe involved, but prices are quite low. But that only works in season, from may to end of october weekends mainly, plus summer holidays everyday. Bieszczadzki Park Narodowy is also a part of huge international complex protecting nature, with it's equivalents in Ukraine (the border still prevents tourists from getting accross) and in Slovakia (anyone can cross this border in any chosen spot, considering that national park rules on both sides of the border don't allow walking outside the network of marked trails). I do remember my first encounters with Bieszczady in early 1990s, when it was all wild, quiet and no rush, now torusists numbers increased few times since, traffic queues can be longer than on motorways, there could even be a queue to walk the last bit of Tarnica trail, but still there are parts of the highest Bieszczady, where everyone can find themselfs peace and quiet. Bieszczady National Park also owns a nature museum in Ustrzyki Dolne, one of the biggest such museums in Poland, but that is very far from the main complex, and I would think it has been inscribed as a separate object on TripAdvisor.

If you love real nature, walking without crowds - this is the place for you. Great views, silence. This is the place where you can really rest.

It takes quite a while to get here from all the major cities in Poland and as such there really aren’t many people to spoil the long walks and vistas across the amazing mountain-scape. The trails into the mountains can be very tough - with temperatures in the high 20s you’ll be soaked with sweat in no time. But there are easier assents although these can be a little busy (comparatively!). Not a huge amount of wildlife to see (but there are wolves and bears in these then hills!) but the tranquility of being atop a mountain you’ve just hurt to get up cannot be beat. There are many trails to choose to fit most abilities. And after you come down, streams to swim and cool down in. Would recommend that you stay as close to the National Park as possible so that as soon as you get up you’re in the nature and close to the trails.

Went for my first time to this beautiful area. I fell in love with it and would go back for sure. Be sure to bring a good pair of hiking shoes, you will need them!

The Bieszczady National Park is in the far SE of Poland and is because of this is remote and unspoilt. The scenery is not dramatic but it is very beautiful. Because of its location it is not crowded and on some walks you can go hours without seeing other walkers. Wolves, lynx and bears still roam the forest here.

For nature and hiking lovers it would be the perfect destination. For those who are not used to harsh nature conditions it could be a bit unconfortable. Be prepared for problems with mobile conncetions, with great amount of mud especially in Spring. Be preared also that there are roughly no facilities in the Park but there is a pay point at the beginning of every most popular trail. However, despite all those difficulties the nature and views are rewarding.

Amazing place. Lovely scenery. Walking shoes required as narrow in places. Lots of people to chat to as you walk even if you only speak a little polish.
Coffee hut at the top but very steep walk down. My poor knees are suffering now. Defiantly worth a visit and if at the bottom your too tired to walk back the taxi bus passes by for very few plz.

Tarnica would be the trail to be in!
Especially when you reach the peak, there is a long walk on top that is breathtaking as it's roughly flat, with small bumps across!

Is there public transportation to the park? If so, from where? Can one get around the park without a car?
Where are some good places to stay near the park?

PT runs everyday so don't worry. You can start in Wetlina, Smerek, Cisna, Wolosate, Ustrzyki Gorne. There you find starting points to many hiking paths. A car isn't essential but remember that hiking trails are long, beautiful and breathtaking. Do not hesitate and come for it.
