About
The Suffolk Owl Sanctuary is home to more than 80 beautiful and unusual owls and other birds of prey. Between Easter & September, we give three flying displays daily, each featuring different birds. There is also a woodland walk featuring red squirrels and "Meerkat Kastle", the home to our resident tribe of desert dwellers. Our picnic areas are scattered throughout the centre. Children are catered for with an inclusive play area, mini-maze, a free S.O.S. Safari activity with a gift for all young participants, and other games & activities. In addition we run a selection of falconry courses and photo days which allow great access to the birds - these are very popular with keen photographers. There is full wheelchair access to the Sanctuary throughout.

Brilliant

Took my Grandsons here during half term and we all had an enjoyable time. All the animals are well looked after and seem very happy in their environment.
The meerkat talk was very informative and the flying display was amazing, would highly recommend both if you are planning a visit. The whole place is very Covid friendly and a big thank you to everyone for all their hard work and dedication for allowing us to visit in these difficult times.

Great day out

Visited prior to lockdown and although the hospital was not open, there was plenty to see with lots of explanation and information from the very friendly informed staff concerning the many birds of prey they have. Brilliant visit

Enjoyable visit and show

Enjoyed visit. Show very good. Handlers took time to show us the birds after and, during the show, were adept at creeping around the audience so that the birds flew over you.

Great visit especially for a family!
Oct 2020
Firstly we would like to say a massive thank you to Catherine who was more than helpful with our issues of booking tickets online to visit.

We visited for a second time yesterday and will now look at purchasing an annual pass as it's not too far from Colchester and on a sunnier day (bit wet yesterday after we arrived!) we would be able to spend more time there.

Even in the wet condition and obvious closures due to Coronavirus the sanctuary still offers much to see. The birds are amazing, aloof, funny but mostly beautiful. Meerkats are always fun to watch and the two massive rabbits are cute.

All the staff were great, all friendly and approachable.

Thank you

Great visit

If you love seeing these awesome birds at close range then this is an ideal place to visit. They have dozens of raptors on static display as well as two flying displays each day. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly.

Had a really lovely visit today, despite the inclement weather. Arrived in time for the first birds of prey display and were wowed by both the birds and the talented, knowledgeable falconers. Brilliant. We last visited about 15 years ago and the sanctuary has absolutely blossomed since then with far, far more birds and far superior aviaries. The number of species of owl they now have is amazing to see, along with a large number of other birds and vultures. The second flying display was just as good, with three different birds on display. We loved it. It was a really satisfying day out, and social distancing was a breeze with one way systems and plenty of space.

The sanctuary itself is in a rather random location. There’s a peculiar collection of shops in cabins, random static caravan houses, and a massive holiday park with crazy golf and theatre all on the one site which adds up to quite a strange environment. But once you’re in the wild sanctuary itself, they give you a wrist band so you can come and go as the site café is next to the onsite garden centre.

Never been to an owl sanctuary before but l appsalutly love owls.
Visited Sunday afternoon we hadn't book but luckily it wasn't to busy.
The lady at the desk was really nice took our temperature did track and trace and explained everything to us.
All the staff are really friendly took the time to chat with us explained all about the owls birds of prey.
We sat and watch the flying display that was appsalutly wonderful could have watched it all day.
There's another part to it with more owls just out the back gate and across a road, that has a nice picnic area for in the better weather
All the owls are really well looked after and the staff are very passionate about there jobs you can tell they love all of the animals in the sanctuary.
We will definitely be coming back again.

Great day out any time of the year
Oct 2020
It was a crappy old day, and wondered what we could do and we always liked the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary, and during these times due to the virus, we thought we would go and support them.
There was a handful of people the whole day, however, it was a great experience. We were able to chat with the trainers of the birds, as they still had to train the birds in all weather, as there were only the two of us, and it showed how well they all gone on as a team and how much they cared for the birds and sanctuary.
We spent around 5 hrs there, reading the info on each of the birds, seeing out old faithfuls - Cotweb.
It was impressive to view the new enclosures, and all staff were helpful and friendly when asked a question.
It is worth a trip rain or shine, they are helpful, very informative and making people aware of the problems birds of prey are having now, in particular the vultures

Very pleasant few hours

Our favourite part was watching the birds flying in the display field . It was a wet weekend and we decided we would like to visit the bird sanctuary. The birds all looked very well cared for and contented. We learnt a lot during the display - why birds do certain things and how they are trained

A must see place to put on your itinerary in Suffolk
Oct 2020 • Couples
What a find this place is! We went specifically to the Owl sanctuary, expecting only to be there for a couple of hours or so, but with all the other facilities on the site, we spent a great day out.

The Sanctuary itself is well organised and laid out with clear and fresh notices / information boards. The staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable who clearly love and have a passion for the well being of their guests (birds, animals and humans!).

The flying display was an educational treat and a must for young and old alike - even more so if you are looking for some close up action photographic opportunities.

With regard to co-vid precautions - they have it well sussed and organised - it was quiet today but on busier days, I am 100% sure that people would feel safe and secure with the arrangements that they have in place.

In summary - a fantastic place to go and see nature’s best, close up and real. Brilliant staff doing sterling conservation and rescue work which needs our continued support by visiting - to raise the funds for them to continue. Go if you can - you won’t be disappointed.😊
