Made to feel at home
Nov 2021
I chose this pub with accomodation because I needed a base whilst visiting the surrounding area where my family came from. The rooms are in a small converted barn separated from the pub. My room was very clean with en suite and efficient heating. The bed gave me three good nights' sleep. A bonus was that the staff were really helpful and friendly. There was a change of towels and an efficient clean round every day while I was out which I had not expected for a budget room. If you are looking for a base on a budget. this will suite very well. I hope to visit again.

Disgusting Discrimination
Oct 2020 • Family
We visited here after a lovely country walk. Was a spur of the moment thing and so we didn’t have our physical exemption cards with us but was happy to show the exemption on our phones. I can only presume a man who was the owner demanded to see them as soon as we entered, we discreetly explained we were exempt. He refused to serve us and told my husband he didn’t look exempt! Dispite minutes later people we can only assume were regulars walking in without any masks or exemption and sitting with the man. Needless to say we left and are reporting to the relevant authorities as discrimination like this in 2020 should NOT be tolerated. It was dead in there and I’m not surprised after the hostile reception. The poor barmaid was mortified about the owners behaviour.

We booked for my friends wake and we were very pleased with everything. The buffet food laid on the was fresh and plentiful. The decor was modern and clean. Great service. Now that we know it is there we will go back for a Sunday lunch. Thanks to Lynn and her team.

Lovely oib
Aug 2019 • Family
After leaving the Robin Hood on the top of Bluebell Hill after appalling service, we came down the hill to the Lower Bell where we had amazing, friendly service! The pub wasn’t as busy as you would have expected on a Sunday but the atmosphere was nice and the owner / bar staff friendly. We had to wait a little bit for the food but it was really fresh, tasty and hot when it did arrive. Lovely home cooking and very good value!

Inappropriate Behaviour
Jun 2018 • Friends
I have been here on numerous occasions with not a bad word to say hence my previous 5 star rating but unfortunately that has significantly changed. Without dragging my reason out the cause of my decision to no longer spend my hard earned money in this business is the over bearing & threatening behaviour of the LANDLORD. My use of wording is exactly that as I was quite blatantly told in The Gents!!!!!!!!!! in no uncertain terms that if myself & my mates didn’t buy more drinks then he would ask us to leave as he has a business to run😡😡😡😡😡😡😡. Not including my sons 3!!!!!! drinks there was 12!!!!!!! Drinks purchased. Easily 80 I Pounds worth of drinks. As we were watching the England game on a pleasant evening I anticipated a busy bar but as it turned out it was far from it which made it a more relaxing atmosphere except for the fact the landlord was eyeing up the tables of empty glasses & putting pressure on the bar maid to sell drinks. Totally inappropriate attitude hence no more visits.

Bad customer service.
Apr 2018 • Friends
Only stayed 1 night, and am I glad about that. Customer service is not good. First we were shown to our rooms, and told there is no breakfast as they couldn't be bothered to come in to make breakfast. Second. We asked for some more coffee and sugar sachets, and was told they only replenish in the morning so none were available. Third. Was told there is a garage up the hill, but was given wrong directions. Certainly will not go back there.

Lower bell.
Apr 2017 • Family
Have used the lower bell for about 11 years seen it evolved from a working man's pub into eating restaurant and drinking establishment with great fresh food.the locals are very friendly and just a small walk to the ancient kits city stones.you might have to wait a little for your food because it's cooked fresh but it is worth the wait.

A good music venue
Jul 2015 • Friends
One of only half a dozen pubs that have live music on a fully regular basis in the Maidstone area..all very varied styles...a very popular Sunday lunch pub,and at a very good price as well....and a good varied week day menu of high quality and at affordable prices...4 rooms of high quality are also available for B+B visitors..and a very good selection of beers, but I doubt that the snobby Camera brigade would agree...still,I dont expect their hovering over half a pint in a corner, scratching away in their grubby note books will spoil the appeal of this very friendly pub...one ladies can go to without feeling intimidated
