    Best takeaway EVER
We ordered a takeaway on line, the website was easy to use, paid via PayPal. You can order your food up to two weeks time and select a 1 hour slot. The food arrive on time, still hot and on recyclable packaging. The order was correct. There was plenty of food and it was very tasty indeed. The beer batter fish was melt in your mouth and the mushy peas were really tasty as was all the food we ordered. WE WILL BE BACK.

    Amazing lunch
Visited the Chequers this week with a toddler and a baby, lovely outside area on the banks of the River Medway, staff were friendly and attentive, food was excellent. Squid to start was like a meal in itself followed by the BEST chicken Caesar . Anchovies on Caesar were fresh, not tinned which they are usually, everyone in my party were more than pleased. Will definitely visit again very soon.

    Unbelievably amazing
During this awful virus the Chequers has been absolutely amazing. They have gone way and above the call of duty and nothing is too much trouble. Their menu for delivery is great and the veg, fruit, salad and meat boxes are second to none. Their delivery staff are incredible, always bringing a smile, cheery hello and brilliant service. Cannot praise them enough for caring for our community. Thank you so much to the owners and their superb team. Xxx

    Terrible service and so slow!
My partner and I booked a table for Sunday roast. As soon as we got through the door there was a hand sanitiser machine but was empty. We were taken to our table after being told to wait whilst our table was cleaned. When we sat down, we were told someone would be over to take our order for drinks. It took almost 15mins before someone did! We ordered 2 drinks and asked for ice. We waited a further 20mins and asked one of the waitresses who advised the drinks were being done. Another 10mins passed and still nothing so my partner went up to the bar to ask and we were told it was coming. When it finally arrived there was no ice so I asked the waitress who advised they were out of ice. We then said we were ready to order our food. We had to wait around 15mins before we could actually go up to the carvery. The guy serving was great. Whilst we were queuing for our food other customers in front said they had waited over 2hours for their food! By the time we got to the front the food was running out. The service was unbelievably terrible and has put us off returning. I also would like to mention that every table in the pub was taken and didn’t feel social distancing was in place. Such a shame as used to be a lovely restaurant of ours to go for Sunday dinner.

    Poor visit with good friends
Staff friendly but food took so long to come...waited about 1 1/2 hours from starter to main course. We had to ask constantly for drinks to be refilled and where our food were. The music was far tooo loud for a restaurant setting , more like a disco at times!!!!!! Suspect roast station, hadn’t seen any replenishment in two hours I sat near!!!!

    Disappointing Easter roast
Very disappointed with the service and roast dinner, been here many times in the past.We visited with family, all roasts were luke warm at best, most vegetables cold.Lots of it and presented nicely, could have been so much better!!! Waiters/waitresses not trained well, nice enough but not on the ball with ordering, service during meal and after, found ourselves asking for order and when it did arrive after a long wait, had to ask for side orders and sauces,ie Apple,Horseradish, payment etc it goes on... Won't be back any time soon,I should have done my own easter lunch would have been so much better, but this time wanted a day without cooking and put our trust in the Chequers, big mistake!!!

    Sunday Lunch after a walk
Seating is obviously outside but with a cracking view of the river. Staff and pub on the ball with social distancing and hand cleanser. The staff are great and really helpful, we had the beef roast which was lovely. Worth a trip and also a great price and menu.

Didn't quite give a terrible as the building is lovely
Such a shame that this lovely old pub is so poorly managed. Pretty as a picture from the outside. Howerever as we weaved our way in to the bar past some souring looks, only to be told that those in question were in fact the landlord and landlady. Our Pint of ale and g&t served in finger arked and dirty smudge glasses. We shoud have walked out at that point, but we wanted to sit by the river on the terrace, unfortunately that was filthy with cigarette butts and the ashtrays in the shape of flower pots hadn't been emptied for a long, long time. Any thought of ordering lunch quickly dissapeared when we saw what was coming out of the microwave, still the fact that it was microwaved in house might be considered home cooking by some. The facilities were so dusgusting we walked in and straight out again, you could smell the gents as the door opened. Landlord and lady clearly like their wn products. Needs new management and a lot of TLC.

    Sunday lunch
Had booked table for 5. 4 adults 1 toddler. Could not fault the food but customer service was awful. Was not shown to our table. Told it was round the corner. Was only layed for 3. Nobody came to take orders for drinks so assumed we had to order at bar. When we eventually had someone to take order was told we could mix meats so ordered the pork and beef. Also we said baby wouldn't eat meat so could we have a plate to just put a potato and veg on. Nobody came to ask if everything was ok and had to ask for the cutlery. When we went to pay bill was more than we expected and no bill is brought to you. It is just pay at bar. Marked up on board as carvery £8.95. When we queried this the barmaid said you had 2 different meats so we charge £1 extra. At no time was we told this when ordering and it was waitress that encouraged us to have a mix of meat. Also charged us £5.95 for toddlers meal when most places don't charge. Especially as she didn't have meat. Wouldn't have minded paying something but charging us full price for children's meal was a bit much. Because of the awful service we will not be going back which is a shame because the food was good.

OK for a drink in an historical pub or to sit by the riverside
Firstly I should make it clear that this review and rating is as a pub as we only went in for a couple of drinks, so I cannot comment on the food or restaurant aspect. This is an historical pub set on the river, and apparently is now the oldest surviving pub in Aylesford, dating from around 1510 (there used to be an even more ancient pub called The Little Gem just along the road, but sadly I see that this has now closed and fallen into disrepair). There is a nice, partially covered patio at the back overlooking the River Medway, while the pleasant main bar inside is a typical of pubs of this era with dark wood beams, open fireplaces etc. There is also a pool table in a lower part of the bar, along with a large TV screen. The ale selection is limited – only one on tap that I’d never heard of called ‘Cocky Blond’ when I was there. When I asked which brewery it came from the youngish barmaid said disinterestedly “haven’t a clue – just know its Cocky Blond,” (but to be fair, she did offer me a taste). It was OK for a pint in an historically atmospheric bar or a drink by the river, but that’s about it as it didn’t exude that friendly atmosphere of local pubs (no locals sitting on bar stools chatting, no landlord/landlady behind the bar that would have knowledge of the drinks being sold etc). The drinks were quite expensive (a pint of bitter and a small tonic water it was 70p more than the previous pub, and 90p more than the next pub charged – quite a bit just on two drinks) and the service could have been better. For example, I had to ask for my pint to be topped up as it was a good 1½ inches below the rim (and at those prices a pint should be a pint!) Also, there was no greeting or smiles when I ordered, and no response to my cheery ‘goodbye’ when we left. She was simply a barmaid doing a job of serving drinks and collecting glasses but without the friendliness or customer rapport that makes for a good pub (sadly increasingly common nowadays). Not my sort of pub for a local, but OK for a passing drink (the Cocky Blond was OK by the way!).

I have eaten many times at the Chequers in the past year and only on one occasion prior to christmas lunch was I disappointed (I had an curry, which was enjoyable (but naan bread ridiculously hard), when I complained to Aidan, he just said oh I left it in the oven too long and walked off. Attending for christmas meal this year an meal I would say moderate at best, my biggest irritance was that I ordered an starter of mush rooms at least 6 weeks before and was told they didn't have them, but I could have chicken instead-when one pays £75.00 for an pre booked meal, one expects too get what was ordered. So my opinion of the day in question POOR, room for immense improvement. THE PLUS OF THE DAY WAS THAT THE STAFF WERE EFFICIENT, POLITE AND COURTEOUS, it is an shame in my 2 plus hours there no management available. Would I recommend, yes for the food has on many occasions been excellent, but feel vast improvements can and should be made when catering for such an major event, and maybe the Chef could improve on his peoples skills

Christmas meal . Food very good but 3 people unable to come on night due to unforeseen circumstances.
Apologised and said we would of course pay for the preordered food .
We were told it was not the money but the waste.
Yes we agreed so offered to take food to eat the following day ,this was refused as ‘ They don’t have a license!’
So they brought out all the food and with each course said ‘ Is this going to waste or are you eating it ?!’
We felt dreadful , firstly because 3 people hadn’t been able to join us but also because we were consistently told off and embarrassed.
You can do no more than apologise, offer to pay and offer to take food .
