I have been coming to this nice village several times for many years. It is impressive, what they are doing. It is hard work and a lot of stress: More and more tourists: But they are still very authentic. They made a great visitor-parking. please use it. Too many tourists don't and block the town, and the nice pictures. A must-see, this village.

After so many positive messages about it, I decided to see with my own eyes the “miracle” of Viscri. To be honest, I expected a little more...
First of all, no visible signs or clear indications for tourists without Google maps. Could be a strategy to preserve the local flavor unspoiled.
Parking is organized in the outskirts but parking sign is visible only from one direction - getting out of village! So, we passed it and only thanks to a kind biker we found the parking lot.
From parking - no clear indications where to go; no informative map or indications what to see and where to go.Just by luck we followed a wooden arrow, with faded and unreadable letters that drove us to village center.
Finally we got into the village and realized that many others parked near the attraction points, in the middle of the village - as told not allowed by local rules.
In a hot summer day, it would be the best option but we thought that somebody shall manage the parking areas and would forbid lazy tourists to park anywhere. But Viscri is a Romanian village, managed by locals so rules are flexible...
Worth to say that streets are country roads, dusty and full of rocks. Any walking tour (no alleys) shall impregnate your cloths with Romanian soil hence every tourist shall take a part of our national land with him...
Again, no visible signs where the church or citadel are - “follow the Japanese groups” does not apply as COVID keeps them home.
I expected a much renovated village but only a handful of historical houses are really rehabilitated and look like in Germany.
Viscri is a mixture of ugly or deserted houses and newly painted and refurbished ones - nothing in common with Medieval cities one may expect (such as Mont Saint Michel or Carcassonne in France). But renewal is going on and I do expect that Viscri shall worth five stars within short. Until then....

What a lovely village! We had a horse and cart ride through the village to the old church. There are cows, chickens and geese wandering along the road. The old church is set up on the hillside, so peaceful.
We had a tasty meal in a house/b&b, traditional food which was superb. Prince Charles owns a house here, just as simple as the rest of the village

We drove through the village on our way to visit the fortified church and it was quiet with only some kids wandering around the street. The houses are colorful and it is located in a green area.

To get to Viscri by car,the road is better through Dacia if you came from Rupea. The town benefits from a large parking. From here you can start discovering Viscri

The history of this village dates back to the 12th century by the Saxons, because of its relative isolation has been well preserved. There are no paved roads in the main area and it is best to wear walking shoes as the cobbles are uneven, dogs and geese roam freely and the locals use a horse and cart. The homes are painted in a variety of colours. In the last couple of years a community program for rediscovery and revival of ancient traditions such as organic farming , the skills of the blacksmith hand knitting using the local pure wool are encouraged. There is the opportunity to purchase some of the products.

Be sure to visit Viscri for a little break from the busy life and the silence of the simple life. You have the old fortified church, traditional crafts and traditional romanian food.
