worst temple ever!
Nov 2020
worst temple we ever went too. The monk does black magic on western men and the amulets are poison. avoid this place at all costs

Different than the others

This is an interesting Wat. It’s in a beautiful location and the chimes echoing across the landscape when the breeze blows is enchanting. I need to do some more reading on this place because it really is different.

Fun and interesting temple! Must see
Oct 2019 • Family
This temple is so different than a lot of others, the structure is nice but more importantly it’s fun!!

I can’t reveal too much or else it will lose the fun of it! Definitely a must visit temple!

A Different type of Temple
Jan 2019 • Couples
The Wat Sang Kaew Phothiyan temple is different than the others that I have been to. There is a ‘fun’ theme to it.

You see statues smoking and drinking beer. You see a statue wearing converse runners. You also see a statue with chains around it’s ankles. This is not what you would see at the other temples.

You also have an opportunity to throw coins in the belly of a Buddha.

This temple is very colorful and is worth a visit. It’s not as well known as the other temples in Chiang Rai which is why there are only a few people there when I visited this temple.

Go and see for yourself.

Must see
Sep 2018
This wat does not receive the publicity it deserves. We enjoyed our visit more than the famous Wat Rong Khun. A bit out of the way but anyone traveling to Chiang Rai should put it on their "must see" list.

Something different
May 2018 • Family
We came here on the way to other temples and wasn’t disappointed.

The place mixes some modern themes with traditional. (See photos)

There are places to eat outside the temple which was cheap and good food, there is somewhere to eat and drink in the temple too.

The temple itself was spectacular and the statues and bells made it enjoyable to visit too.

Loads of fun!

It's completely different from the seriousness of other temples in town, this is more on the 'fun' side with ironic sculptures displayed based on the modern world. The upper part is still under construction / expansion. I can't believe this is a well-hidden gem, if it weren't for my private drive I wouldn't have known! By the way my driver (tony from lanna tour) said his brother in law helped built this place! And he's super proud!

Surprise surprise!

Amazing pearl of a temple complex hidden 2kms up hill from the main Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai road. No entrance fee, enormous land footprint filled with a mix of traditional and modern style sculptures and temples stretching a good kilometre back. Interesting modern sculpture at the main temple entrance of 4 statues carrying a large bell: 2 in the familiar traditional gold style and dress and 2 dark-skinned modern figures, one drinking beer with a mobile phone (with social media) in his pocket and wearing flip flops; the other smoking a cigarette and giving a hand gesture and wearing Converse boots. Super cool! Yet still peaceful within the temples themselves. Well worth a visit.

Wat Saengkaeo Temple is bananas.
Feb 2017 • Couples
My wife and I came here on a whim and boy were we blown away. The temple is HUGE. So many different massive statues. There was a group of food vendors selling food in the parking lot of the temple. This place is well worth it. I highly recommend.
