About
Hi I am May! I am the owner and have always been the only instructor at Thai Secret Cooking School & Organic Garden in Chiang Mai Thailand. I opened my home to host Thai cooking classes 10 years ago and have many more years of experience teaching Thai cooking to people from all walks of life. I am playfully strict when teaching my half menu and full day menu. I want my cooking classes to be fun, educational, entertaining, most importantly a positively memorable experience for everybody. If you are not already a Master Chef, you will not be a Master Chef after my class. My classes are for people to casually enjoy a day cooking with me and new friends. Thai Secret is in the San Sai district of Chiang Mai, about 20 minutes from the old city mote area. Included in the price of my class is round trip transportation from the downtown area and my school. Touring the local Thai market, my garden, your own copy of Thai Secret Cookbook. Hope to cook with you soon! May Owner operated every day:)

Great Thai Cooking Class for Families... Fun & Tasty!
Jul 2020
My family and I had an amazing day at the Thai Secret Cooking School! May was a fabulous host, teacher and chef as she welcomed us to her home and organic farm in Chiang Mai for the cooking school. We learned to cook some of our favorite Thai dishes from Panang Chicken (including red curry paste from scratch) to Mango Sticky Rice 🙂 and much, much more. The whole family got to participate from picking the vegetables in the farm to, chopping, cooking and preparing the final dishes. This cooking experience will be one we will all remember! Cheers!

Incredible cooking class and a fun, delicious, memorable day
Mar 2020
We visited the Thai Secret Cooking School in early March, and had an absolutely fantastic day with May on her lovely property in Chiang Mai. Before we even arrived, we were picked up at our hotel by May's niece, and she brought us to a local market for a tour and to pick up some ingredients for the day. It was so fun to learn about all of the new-to-us ingredients we found at the market, and Tang was super sweet and fun to chat with. We were fortunate to have a private class for our small group of 3, which was an amazing experience! May took us out into her garden, where she told us all about her different crops, and we were able to pick lots of the ingredients that we cooked with throughout the day. We each got to pick the menu items we made, and chose a different dish for each course so we got to try several different things. May was knowledgeable and friendly, and made us feel so welcome. She gave us great cooking tips, along with lots of information and education about the food we were cooking and Thai culture and cuisine in general. And the food was delicious! It was one of our most memorable experiences in Chiang Mai, and I would highly recommend her classes to anyone.

Best Cooking Class Ever!
Mar 2020
I highly recommend taking the Thai Secret Cooking School! May is absolutely amazing. You get to go to a market that the locals go to and they explain the ingredients very well. After you get to pick fresh ingredients from her garden and spend the whole day cooking and eating. What is there not to love! I really loved how she also explained the cooking technique and reasons why. On top of it all she gives you a really nice recipe book. This was definitely one of the highlights of my trip. I'd recommend it to anyone I know :).

The best cooking class I've had
Feb 2020
From the punctual pick-up at our hotel to the reluctant goodbyes to May and her staff in the afternoon, the Thai Secret Cooking School must be the world's best kept secret! Our first stop was at the market where May gave a detailed and informative discussion of local produce and its various uses in northern Thai cuisine. After a drive out to her farm, we donned hats and aprons and picked and cut additional produce from her garden. After 16 years of teaching cooking, May conducted a group of amateur chefs (us) with an efficiency that she manages in an easy going style. The end result is a multi-course meal that we prepared from scratch -- from grinding the ingredients for curry paste to grating the coconut to make fresh coconut milk. The custom made cookbook we received at the end of the day was a perfect complement to everything we learned. There are many cooking schools in Chiang Mai, but a reservation at this one should be your top priority.

Fantastic experience

Whole day was amazingly good. Informative, friendly and great fun. May and Jason fabulous hosts, their staff great. The atmosphere got us all in the spirit. Learnt how to cook my favourites. Just wish May had taught us to brew Singh beer at home! Thanks Thai Secret Cooking School for a great day.

Can't recommend enough!
Feb 2020
May is a fantastic teacher. Her and her staff worked their butt off to make this a great class. Everything is portioned out for you, so you only have to do a little bit of quick prep work - some simple slicing. Before each item, the group is shown how to prepare the dish and then replicate it at individual stations. The dishes were so tasty too. May's team also beautifully provides garnishes to plate with, so your meal is very Instagram worthy.

Two things to know, we each selected different items to cook thinking we could share. In hindsight we wouldn't do that again as the group is split by entrees so sometimes we'd both be cooking together and sometimes we wouldn't. We would've preferred to cook together. Also, the ride back from the school can be lengthy due to afternoon traffic and where you fall in the drop off order. Our trip home was over an hour.

Awesome experience and well worth spending a day in the kitchen
Feb 2020 • Couples
My wife and I just finished May’s secret cooking school and had an awesome day. Super casual, fun, but still informative for those of you that take your knives and tools seriously. May and her niece were helpful, gave lots of instruction and nothing about the class felt rushed. I’d highly recommend this to anyone looking to have some authentic home cooked Thai food, or just looking to make another memorable experience during your time in Chiang Mai. May - thank you for having us in your home and for an unforgettable day. Peter & Liz
