Roman construction then improved by the Normans and Swabians. In 1600 it became the palace of the Guevara dukes and assumed its current appearance. Chests, octagonal tower, Norman tower, battlements, square of arms make the monument interesting. Too bad about the Infiniti restoration works. Starting from the diocesan museum inside the castle you reach the old town and the beautiful Byzantine cathedral.

This is without a doubt an unusual place to visit. Situated in an old castle which was at one time a private home as opposed to a fortress.
It's out of the way and off the normal tourist route which we found quite an unusual experience.
The castle is minimally staffed but don't be put off by that.
Because the castle has so many priceless relics dating back many centuries, it's locked up for security purposes. Ask to see the Museo after breakfast as it's a must not miss.
Bovino is a town that once had 15000 inhabitants but now only 2000 or so due to lack of work for younger people.

The Castello is magical. The grounds are beautiful - the views amazing - and the castle is perfectly restored. Try and sleep at the castle if possible - you will not be disappointed by the rooms or service.

There is a must see museum in the castle. There is parking, a rarity in bovino. Beds not very comfortable, but A.C. in the rooms. Breakfast cereal for kids was stale, maybe not many kids visit. Usual cappuccino, yogurt, sweet bread, jelly. Ok.

Bovino is a small and beautiful town. There is an incredible castle that overlooks the rolling hills that surround Bovino. There are some delicious restaurants in the town and the walk through the 'villa' is stunning. The old churches are worth a visit and walking through the old cobble stone streets is a beautiful experience.

Fantastic location and great view over surrounding valleys and mountains. From the highest point of the castle is the best view over the old part of Bovino. The small museum is interesting showing mostly religious artifacts.

We walked up to the castle and felt like we were arriving at someones home. Through the archway there is a courtyard, mostly it seems left to the birds(looks like you could use it for a film set) you can not enter into the castle but is nice to look at the outside and sit a while. When we were there we were the only ones. There is a religious museum in the grounds, but itvwas not open.Visit the castle and then have a nice coffee in the main highstreet. They make you very welcome.

The atmosphere of Castello di Bovino is magical. Walking within the ancient walls and imagining the life that once took place is a unique emotion. The view from the tower is breathtaking. Highly recommended.

Beautiful fortress with panoramic position both on the village and on the surrounding plain. Very nice climb and the entrance part. Too bad it was closed and not open, also under renovation. Nice.

The Bovino castle is located in a truly enviable position because it dominates all the surrounding territories. It dates back to the eleventh century and can be visited for free. It can be easily reached on foot.
