I saw a couple of exhibition flags in front of the Arts Centre and the door of the Black Diamond Gallery was open. So I parked my car right in front of the Arts Centre and went in to see what’s displayed in the art gallery. It was lovely to see various kinds of arts by a local primary school children aged 8-12.

It was mentioned in the PCAC calendar that the History Month Exhibition was to be held from 5th May to 20th May 2018. So I went to PCAC on 8th May. But to my disappointment, the door was closed. That was very strange…

It is good to remember the following points about the PCAC Black Diamond Gallery:
- It is available for hire, for exhibitions,
- Art exhibitions for members are held at least 4 times a year in the gallery.
- It is open only during exhibitions, or when other events are being conducted.
- It does not have permanent exhibitions like the SA Art Gallery on North Terrae.
- Wheelchairs are accessible through the Visitor Information Centre adjacent to PCAC.

They had an exhibition of the works of 14 local artists, featuring South Australia by ceramics, photography, painting and sculpture. Two artists were there to assist the visitors by explaining the displayed arts. As I couldn’t keep on standing, they offered me a chair and took it around the gallery for me. That was nice!
As I noted previously, a wheelchair can be accessible through the Port Adelaide Visitor Information Centre, which is adjacent to the Port Community Arts Centre. (I discovered it, when I visited for the first time. It’s always good to ask, as they are willing to help visitors.)

When I visited a few months ago, I was disappointed to find that it’s open only during exhibitions. So for this time I checked up in the calendar of events and went to see the “ARTiculated” exhibition in the Black Diamond Gallery.
By participating the annual SALA (South Australian Living Artists) Festival the gallery displayed various types of arts by many artists. I asked the lady in the gallery why it was entitled the “ARTiculated” exhibition. She wasn’t quite sure, but I could see that each artist seemed to have the ability to express his/her impression of a particular image cohesively. I found that the paintings of flowers were particularly very beautiful. There was a voting box for the one you liked most.
The front door of the art gallery was a couple of steps below the footpath and there was no ramp. But a wheelchair can be accessible through the Port Adelaide Visitor Information Centre, which is adjacent to the Port Community Arts Centre.

Great little place for local artists to display their talents. Professionally run and has a keen volunteer staff lead by a dedicated committee - needs a bit more promotion by the Council nut well worth visiting.

Popped in here after a visit to the Maritime Museum. A very friendly lady greeted us and my friend and I enjoyed looking round the gallery.

It supposed to be open daily (9am – 5pm) according to the information on the Web. But it was closed, when I visited. The person in the Information Centre next to it told me that it opens only when special events/exhibitions are on and gave me a Newsletter, which had a calendar of events in the Back Diamond Gallery. Nevertheless, it was interesting to read the information in the front of the building that it used to be a courthouse.
