Great "training"
Aug 2021
Volunteers were very helpful and cheerful...my two grandsons had a great time climbing on the trains and they loved the train ride around the grounds of the museum...with Covid distance rules in place in the carriages. the boys also had a ride on "Thomas Tank". I especially appreciated the hard work of the volunteer in the cafe...who made a yummy hot dog and cheese and ham sandwich and a yummy cup of tea...we will be back again.

Best Railway Museum in Australia
May 2021
If you have the slightest interest in railways, then this museum is a must-do when in Adelaide. They have a very wide range of rolling stock from many parts of Australia including iconic items such as the tea and sugar carriages and the wine train.

I spent 3 hours here although I certainly consider myself a rail enthusiast so spent ages reading all the descriptions. Very easy to get to from central Adelaide being only about 10-15 minutes walk from Port Adelaide station (and well signposted too).

Friendly and helpful staff.

Lots of Trains
Mar 2021 • Family
Lots of trains available for climbing into and seeing how past generations travelled by rail. There is also a little tourist track train so the kids feel that they have had a ride and the big kids get an overview of the trains restored here.

Excellent train education and fun for kids
Jan 2020
Excellent set up of the history of trains in Australia. There is plenty of entertainment for the kids. Children loved the interactive touchscreen games hidden inside the various carriages. Nice train ride. Good activity for families with young children. Would recommend spending about 1.5 hour here for those on a tight schedule.

My first time
Jan 2020 • Family
The museum is a fun little outing for the kids. It wasn't huge in my opinion but there was definitely plenty to do and see. I love learning and there was plenty of facts to read and study. I especially enjoyed being able yo climb up on board the various trains.

I don't think I have ever seen so many trains in the one place before! An amazing museum and a credit to the volunteers who have the passion and dedication to keep it going. Well worth a visit but be prepared to stay a while!
