We enjoyed the ferry from Bang Na and rented bikes for a half day trip to floating market. Riding bikes is reasonably safe for adults, but I don't recommend to small kids. The market is a regular Thai-style market, built on top of watery low land, no selling of goods from boats. Prices were cheap and variety was amazing. A lot of food available. The botanic garden is nice too, I could recommend biking there with kids too. Bikes available near entrance. Need to go again.

The market is located on an off shore island and is very big. Each time I turned a corner, there is another line of food stalls.
Good traditional thai food available. There are also shops selling T shirts and other stuff. If you enjoy cycling, you can rent a bicycle for 50 THB the whole day and cycle to the market. After that, you can cycle to visit "Sri Nakhon Khuen" park (2km away) and also visit "Siamese fighting fish gallery"(nearby)
To get here, you can go to Bang Na BTS. After exiting, you will find motorbike taxis waiting to pick up passengers. Tell the rider you want to go to "Talad naam Ban Nam Pheung" and he will bring you to the pier to take a ferry. The ride costs 20 THB. The ferry will bring you across in about 5 minutes. Then, you pay 6 THB when you disembark. You will see a lot of bicycles and you can rent one. A map of the island will also be given.

It is a market that has a wide variety of products for sale, such as food, desserts, vegetable gardens, and OTOP products made from herbs. There are activities such as fishing for tourists to participate in. I can go for a walk. the weather is not very hot And most importantly, the products at Bang Nam Phueng Market are not very expensive.

This is truly a gem of a market. It’s a local attraction and enjoys favorability with weekender Thai couples, families and small groups visiting. The number of Western tourists is demonstrably small giving it an atmosphere of “authenticity”. I was fortunate to have it included on a bike tour with Nai, my guide from Spice Roads.
It has the usual variety of booths selling fresh produce, plants and myriad opportunities to purchase fried and grilled food. It also has many unique booths. One can find Siamese fighting fish for sale,
unusual retail items and there is a sling shot competition area in which competitors can fire their seeds/stones at strings of soup cans that have been hung up as targets.

Tucked well away from downtown in a very jungle spot, this 'floating' market is actually a walk around market not a boat type. Although it is on a canal that's true.
Primarily full of locals doing some shopping, browsing or eating, you'll still see an occasional tourist here. There are many sections and it's a lot bigger than it looks. Fruits & veggies, flowers, clothing, handcrafted goods, honey & spices, and of course food&drink. These are in snacks and sit down restaurants.
The prices here are very reasonable and you can negotiate a little. The restaurants especially are very well priced.
The area is popular to bike around, or you can stroll back to the ferry. It's not the biggest or most well known market but it's absolutely worth your time.

Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market is located in Phra Pradaeng District Samut Prakan Province There are many shops in the market. Selling local food, both savory and sweet and OTOP products from people in Bang Nam Phueng community and nearby sub-districts in Samut Prakan Province The market is only available on Saturdays and Sundays. When I go, I really like this place. There is a wide variety of food and lots of clothes or plants. Plus very economical.

Crossing the river on the ferry 4Baht (that's about Aussie 16c), follow that with bike rental at 80Baht for the day, nice local meals at the markets (4 adults with drinks 160Baht) makes it a cheap day out.
The markets are clean and plenty of things to catch your eyes- especially food! The only thing floating are are few boats where the cooking gets done in a small canal. Everything else is firmly fixed in place. This is not the floating market you may have been expecting as per TV!
None the less, we enjoyed our trip through it and spent very little but got well supplied with local produce.
The bike ride through to the Sri Nakhon Khuen Khan Park and Botanical Garden aka "The Lungs of Bangkok" is not too far nor too taxing (I made it and it was only my second time on a bike in almost 60 years). It's a good place just for a ride around and/or stopping off with a snack and drink) without a single high rise or hustle and bustle.
Fairly quiet and quite rural and on the doorstep of Bangkok - who woulda thunk it!

Got lost for about an hour trying to find this place but it was SO worth it. High quality products for extremely reasonable prices. Everything from children’s board games to hipster t shirts to tiny dollhouse food to actual steaming hot street food... this market had it all, but not in over whelming amounts. Definitely an essential part of any cycling day trip in the green lung!

First of all the name 'Floating Market' is a bit of a misnomer. The market is on land surrounded by small channels. What I liked about this market is that it is a more local than tourist market. There are lots of stalls selling Thai food and of course the usual clothes and other nicknaks. You can hire a bicycle and take a ride around the local area. There are lots of little walkways between the channels and quaint local houses. The area is called 'The green lung of bangkok', for obvious reasons. Be sure to get to the market by 10am as it gets extremely busy around lunch time and later, and the traffic coming into the market is just insane. No need to book an expensive tour to get there, just ask a taxi driver to take you, you can drive to the market. This is a nice experience if you want to see how the locals go about their daily lives.

How much does it cost to rent a boat for the floating market? Does the price go by the boat or by the number of people? We are 6 people. Thank you!

Hi.. we went from the city and hired a cab/taxi. Got a fixed price. And do the same for the boats as we saw lots of people getting ripped off..( paying twice what we did) so haggle with them. 😊

Hi, how can I get to Bang Nam Phueng market from Khaosan road? is there a ferry?
Mary L
Taipei, Taiwan19 contributions
Hi, Jon, there's no ferry go directly from Khaosan to Bang Nam Phueng market. The best and fastest way (not worried about traffic jam) is to take the BTS to the Bang Na station. And then take the taxi to the Bang Nahmpueng Pier for less then 50 baht or take the songthaew to the Pier less then 10 baht. At the Pier, take the Ferry to cross the river. And then enjoy your day at the market.

The Bang Nam Phueng opens every weekend form 8.00-14.00. In the market face book, it indicates also opening on the official holiday that connected to weekend, either Friday or Monday.

what is firefly cruise? We are visiting Bangkok in April and trying to figure out what to do with our children. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I am sorry it's too late for your trip. Firefly cruise is not in this water market. It's in Amphawa Floating Market. The firefly cruise runs anytime and you can see firefly all year but the numbers of fireflies you see are different. Usually When the weather is hot and wet, you see more. The little fire is like the little light on the Christmas trees.

Does anyone know if there are any firefly cruises close to this market?

There are no nearby firefly cruise. Amphawa floating market down south of bangkok has a nightly private cruise.
