- Rosie2409Old Newton, United Kingdom148 contributionsAmazing BeachA truly stunning beach. Clean, safe and plenty of shade by renting a lounger (50,000 IDR for 2 per day). Local warungs are fab and surf lessons such fun. Looked at other beaches but always came back here!Visited October 2023Written November 1, 2023
- sue c368 contributionsDefinitely worth the drivePre arrange taxi with Sudin Transport from Lembar cruise pier to Selong Belanak beach. It was about an hour drive each way. Driver dropped us off at Laut Biru bar and restaurant, which we used for alcoholic drinks and toilets. We grabbed some very comfortable sun loungers a little further up the beach for about £5 (100,000 IDR), take local currency!! Beach was pretty clean compared to others and wonderfully quiet and relaxing. Popular with surfers and great to watch. Sea was lovely and warm but too much wave action for good swimming. - Dhennver NgPetaling Jaya, Malaysia1,299 contributionsGood beach for tourist to Surf and sunThis is probably a good beach to visit on the first day of Lombok as it is very touristy, it is also as safe as it can get too. Other beaches may be very quiet and you may not know if there are currents etc. there is parking at the entrance for motor bikes at idr10k per day. And toilet use is idr5k which is located near the entrance too. I went to Mul's surfing school as there where good reviews.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 9, 2024

Horrible experience at Selong Belanak beach! Rented 1 surfboard at NAHWI bar. 30min later of really light surfing, the board just broke in 2 pieces in the water (it broke while not even standing on it) so it was obvious something was wrong with the board. The guy did not seem surprised when we showed him, told us we have to pay 2million because we broke it. We went to the coffee nearby, checked the internet and read a lot about this scam beach!!! Also one creepy guy with a knife in his hands laughing at us at the parking spot. In the end we had to drive 30min down to Kuta with the stupid surf guy and payed 2,3million, otherwise who knows what could have happened with those criminals. We loved Lombok but we definitely won't come back, Bali is just way nicer and more safe.

Unless you are a conplete beginner and want to surf by the beach, don’t come here. It’s a total scam with the boats. They will charge you a lot of money and literally abandon you very far from the coast, in the middle of the ocean and of course won’t give you the money back. Also you can access the same waves from a beach close by paddling out

Beach is lovely. Got convinced to do a surf lesson with Eva Surf School crew. It was a great lesson until after I realised I paide way too high a price and then when I tried to buy a photo the day after, the photographer called me a b*tch because I wouldn’t buy all 14 shots after he offered to sell me only a couple? It was very unreasonable. Made a good experience, a bad one 😞 would not return 👎

Beautiful but be careful of scammers! They sell you surfing lessons with cheap boards that break when you fall (even taped ones). Then they try you make pay for it. Make agreements in the beginning and then you are safe. Happened to us and others on the same day. Especially dont go to „Moza“. They said we have a break from lessons and then disappeared.

My two daughters got private surf lessons and my son and I just hired boards for a couple of hours.
Daughters were both standing and riding waves well by the end and we had a lovely time.
Cheap food in the warungs was delicious and equal quality to that in town.
Great place to go with a family

There are 2 entrances to the beach. One looks a bit weird and it seems you are at a wrong place, the other one is more welcoming. We got surf lesson from local guys, 400k for 2 for 2 hours. The class was great. Its a beginner surf spot. The beach is full of locals which makes it great and authentic, however quite full of garbage.

As beautiful the beach is, as ugly the people are working there renting surf boards! 'Nahwi' surf bar guy told us we should better not break the board and we thought okay wow how should this be even possible. Went into the sea for a few tiny waves and the (pre fixed, well hidden) surf board broke in 2 pieces. We very really angry and the guy followed us to Kuta to get around 130€. We will never visit Lombok again, had not the best time there. DO NOT RENT ANY SURFBOARD THERE

Do not book with Gani Surfscool. (First surf school on the right before you get to the beach) One of our children's boards broke, despite careful use. Gani insisted that we pay for half of the board. As we didn't agree to this, there were suddenly 4 other people there to support him. We asked 2 other stores further to the right whether any damage had to be paid for. Both said that you don't have to pay for any damage and that Gani is known for this scam. General advice: Before you book anything, make absolutely sure that you don't have to pay for any damages.

The beach is really nice, but stay away from renting surf boards there!
We rented a board which broke after a couple of waves. It was obviously broken before and just put together. They charged us 2.3 million and even followed us back to Kuta for the Atm. Read about other story's where they even got aggressive. This is a total tourist scam!
We had a close look at the other boards and they where all fixed as well.

Are the buffalos still appearing on the beach?
I've asked 2 local guides and each is saying that not anymore.

Can anyone recommend a reputable surf rental/surf lesson at this beach? Would like to rent a board and maybe have a lesson but concerned about the comments about the broken board scams.
Thanks in advance for any answers.

I am currently being offered 45 USD for a 2-3 hr lesson in Selong Belanak beach.
Is this reasonable? how much in rupiah should i pay? we have no experience.
Should i just turn up and book a lesson?
Written February 24, 2017
Hi there, I was there in 2016 & all I did was just turn up & just talk to some of the warungs owner which most will offer you surf lessons & also beach chairs. Just remember to ask a few so you could compare the price.

Hello All,
Should we book surfing lessons on the beach before we come or just turn up?
Where do we put our scooters and secure them? What is the best point on the beach?
Thanks
Gulum

Just book lessons when you get to the beach. There are lots of instructors
Basically there is just one road to the beach and you can park your scooter with all the others.
Enjoy

Would it be possible to take a taxi to Selong Belanak Beach from Lembar cruise port? Is it far?
Written July 4, 2016
Is it possible to get to here if staying in Kuta. Best mode of transport and time to get there?
Written February 3, 2016
The cheapest option is to rent a scooter for about $5 per day. I found the roads through the countryside to be very quiet on weekdays and not intimidating. However, it's not a good option for transporting kids, obviously, and you need to feel confident in yourself, as you'll spend most of the time looking out for road signs and trusting that you didn't miss the turn-off. Keep in mind that it's almost certainly not covered by your travel insurance if something goes wrong.

hello, have you done much snorkelling. we have around lombok
and if so was the experience here just ok, better or just so so
thanks
Written June 25, 2015
Selong Belanak is no good for snorkelling as the beach has a gently sloping sand bottom with no rocks anywhere. That's why it's great for swimming. There is a reef far out to the right of the bay but just looking at it, there always seems to be wave action with white water which wouldn't be good for snorkelling, and maybe not safe. I also can't imagine the cluster of rocks at the south end of Selong Belanak beach to have much sea life, and it's often rough. Don't forget these bays all have fishing villages with active fishing populations which deplete sea life. Suggest you email Sempiak Villas (a small complex on Selong Belanak) and ask them. They have been there for many years.
