the tomb built for the twelfth Emperor of the Nguyen dynasty, vietnam.It features a blend of vietnamese architecture with western styles.i visited this place on 6 September, that time, i rented a car with driver for one day trip, this place is the second stop. i stepped in Tam Quan Gate first. it is typical of a traditional entrance in ancient Vietnamese architecture. the gate’s pillars are Indian style,it is an example of the mixture of Vietnamese and Indian cultures. after that,i reached Nghi Mon Area and Bai Dinh Yard. there are many statues of royals, warriors, horses, and elephants.i took some pics with them. then,i headed to Thien Dinh palace, this place, with the ceiling and walls decorated with murals of the Four Seasons, Eight Precious Objects and the Eight Immortals. Below, there is a gilt bronze statue of the King Khai Dinh. after visiting,i bought a key chain of imperial jade seal as a gift.

This tomb is characteristic for the French influenced architecture and ornaments. Facades, ceilings, canopy, everything is elaborately decorated. This is because the emperor studied in France and loved the culture. A dragon is painted on the ceiling. We see the influences by Chinese as well. We can see here the Vietnamese history and culture influenced by France and China. I visited here after Tu Duc and saw the difference from there clearly. It’s so beautiful and it got crowded by people taking pictures. The stairs to the tomb are steep but you’ll forget it once you see the beautiful inside.

As a Vietnamese living in Saigon, have many times for traveling to Hue city but this is my first time to visit Khai Dinh tomb. I was so surprised with the design, interiors of this place and cannot believed this was constructed manually without any support of machines or modern technical. Pls come to this place to see how beautiful Vietnam tourist attractions are. Many loves from Southern people.

Hue is famous for its Imperial Citadel, as well for Royal tombs of Nguyen dynasty who ruled Vietnam (under French blessing) from 1802-1945. There're some 7-8 tomb sites scattered around the city southwestern suburbs. Tomb of Khai Dinh, who was the penultimate Emperor, is the most impressive and ornate one, yet with some kitschy details. It's elevated from the street level, reaching it through a Chinese style gate via 2 stairways. On the way up to the Mausoleum you pass ornate stone guards on both sides, as well few smaller temples. The main Mausoleum is a mix of east (Viet and Chinese) and west (French) architecture, which leaves a mixed impression of beauty and kitsch. Interiors are similar - lavishly decorated with mosaics of ceramics, glass, silver,....

My wife and I visited Emperor Khai Dinh’s Tomb as part of our “Explore Hue Imperial Palace from Chan May Port” by VM Travel. Emperor Khai Dinh’s Tomb is very elaborate, with many buildings and structures built at several levels. There was much to see. As Hue is some distance from Chan May cruise port, we were happy to have this tour. Besides visiting the elaborate Emperor Khai Dinh’s Tomb, we visited the extensive Hue Imperial Palace, as well as Thien Mu Pagoda. We also had an excellent Vietnamese set lunch at Madam Thu Restaurant.

We got the hotel to arrange a taxi for us to this tomb, wait for us and return us to the hotel as we did not want to do a tour. It was a great choice and we all enjoyed seeing it at our pace. There are a lot of stairs but so much to see on different levels. Inside the tomb is just so beautiful and unexpected after the grey exterior. We spent probably and hour here looking around. It wasn't too crowded so easy to get photos without loads of people in them.

Quite a grand tomb for a emperor who reigned for 11 years and the mosaic decorations are really beautiful. There are a few steep steps to get to the tomb with no other access for wheel chairs etc, didnt see any WC,s around either. Gets pretty busy like all tourists spots, lost of buses
