About
Christy Barry and his partner Sheila have entertained friends and musicians at their home for many years, sitting around the fire playing music and telling stories. Although the pub sessions are extremely popular they realized that many of their visitors preferred to listen to traditional music in the intimate environment of their home. As a result of this they decided to open up their atmospheric home to visitors so they can experience local Irish music in the relaxed surroundings of their home. Christy talks and discusses the history of traditional Irish music and plays great tunes. Visitors can enjoy the experience of visiting a local home, enjoying local company and listening to a good traditional music session around the fire. Sheila is an artist and her works surround the rooms in the house creating a truly art home atmosphere.

It was fascinating not just to to hear but to also learn something about the local styles of music, and also to hear stories about life in the Doolin area. We very much appreciated the opportunity to spend the evening here: thank you Christy, James, Sheila and Imelda!Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 8, 2024

- Blu777Maine72 contributionsExperience Irish trad music in a home settingWe visited Doolin Music House during our Vagabond Driftwood Jigs & Reels Music Tour. Our visit began with a warm welcome into the Doolin Music House, with a peat fire burning and refreshments on hand, surrounded by artwork and large windows overlooking the green hills. Sheila, Christy and James are wonderful hosts. The music was spectacular. Our tour guide joined in with her fiddle, and man from Netherlands (I think? I forget) played a song on guitar as did one of my tourmates. Stories were told, wine was drunk, and delicious canapes were passed around. You can't beat this experience.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 11, 2024

Sheila was the perfect hostess which welcomed us into her home like family. Christy spun yarn after yarn of local heroes of a craft that kept dance alive in the region. Interludes of lovely music that were only interrupted by canapés and wine glasses. Twenty or so of us got to take this experience with us and we all if questioned would recommend such an evening.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 13, 2024

The Doolin music house is a must do
experience while visiting Doolin! It was an absolute pleasure to hear Christy and his friends play local tunes. The pride and respect Christy has for music is shown while he plays and also through the way he tells stories. It was a true honor to attend the session. We also really enjoyed getting to talk with Sheila. She provided an assortment of local cheese and crackers that were fantastic along with wine to sip on throughout the event. This was a true highlight of our honeymoon and next time we're back in town this will be the number one thing to do on our list!

My favorite experience in doolin! It was a very nice experience meeting such talented poeple and seeing how much music means to them! The history behind the music is very interesting, and some sad moments that make you appreciate how far the Irish have come.
They played very beautifully!
My son had found a small instrument earlier that day at a thrift shop and took it with him to show them. When he showed Chris the instrument he asked my son to join them for a session! My son was soo stoked and the other guests really enjoyed seeing that wholesome experience.

Our teen daughter and her friend love dancing and singing and got to experience the stories of Ireland music. It almost brought you back to a time, and to a place the world should be with fellowship, smiling and stories by all. The hosts ensured they were very welcome to dance and sing. This was definitely a highlight of our trip! Thanks!!!

We spent our entire 16 day trip looking for "trad" at pub after pub. Finally found it here! Lovely, intimate experience in their home hearing wonderful music and enjoying stories of the music and the people. Also, just the right length of time for the evening.

Music the way it should be heard. Christy and Sheila open their home to share traditional Irish music. Christy and friends are top notch musicians (make sure Christy plays the spoons.. He is a master). Hearing them in by a fire place, looking over the burden is simply magical. The night was so much more.. The stories, the canapes, the dancing was lovely. strongly recommend

Sheila was a welcoming and gracious host, and Christy told stories that made you really understand his connection to the traditional music of Ireland. Smoked salmon and local cheeses served as a perfect late lunch. We even made time to see James perform in Galway later in the trip. A highlight of our visit to Ireland, to be sure!

We had a fantastic evening of music with Christy & James. With wonderful hospitality from Sheila. Our group had kids & teens and everyone really enjoyed themselves. I could not recommend this highly enough. A beautiful way to spend an evening in Doolin. Thanks again. We will definitely be back.
