Not as spectacular as I had imagined, but completely visible (just barely) from the ground, in contrast to those at Nasca or the white horse in England. As the stones used are fairly similar in colour to the ground, not a large contrast between the outline and the background. It probably represents a local god, although this is not certain. There are a few other figures very close such as 2 circles, probably added later. Also further on the hill there are geoglyphs. The gigante is the only one facing sunset, all others geoglyphs in the area face the opposite direction.

Well worth a visit to see the largest prehistoric human figure in the world. A good place to stop on a long drive - with information boards about the site.

I absolutely adored seeing this gem in the Chilean desert! It was fantastic with a tour guide who could explain to us the significance of the petroglyph, how the incas used it, and how it's managed to survive I believe it was 1700 years. We got there around 11 when the sun was right on it so it was difficult to take pictures. Do not miss if you are in the region!

15km away from Huara, 500m off the A-15 to Colchane, on the only hill around at that place - can't miss.
The Giant is on the far side on the left.
The dirt road to the Giant is bit bumpy, but can be driven with a 2WD as well; beware the sand and the end !
