Car park was easy to find, big and free. There is also a smaller car park further along the road. There is a sculpture trail to follow and this was very poorly sign posted as the sign posts are very sparsely placed and we only found one sculpture, after which point we could no longer find anymore sign posts! Luckily I have a “find my car” app on my phone that I can use to bring me back to the car park as we were very far into the heart of the woods by this point and it would have been hard to find the way back without this app as the sign posts are so poor. This aside it is a lovely woods. My daughters found a tree swing which they enjoyed playing on. Another downside is that there are no benches to sit on at all. We had to sit on a large tree stump to have a picnic! I didn’t see one dog poo bin either. We were in the woods for 3 hours. We will return however as it is a nice place to explore

Located off the A251 Challock on a road known as Whitehill. Free car parking, but it does get busy especially when the Bluebells are in full bloom. There is an information board showing a map and giving general information on the woodland. The major paths are well maintained, even surfaced and wide. You can easily wander around for a couple of hours. Some picnic style seating is available in the car park. Loads of space for kids and dogs to run around.

We visited here and it is absolutely beautiful. One of the most beautiful woods I have ever been to. We took our two dogs the only thing that would improve the walks would be dog waste bins, we didn’t see one at all. It was a glorious day, we walked 3 miles and we will def be returning.

We enjoyed a lovely afternoon walk here on a very hot day in June 2020 (it was bliss not to be in full sun!) The woods are extensive and the car park is free (if a bit rough). However, I agree that the signage is very poor. We tried to follow the sculpture trail but certain junctions were very unclear and I only saw 1 sculpture. I would have liked more waymarked foot trails actually through the woods rather than following lanes/bridleways most of the way (not sure if we were supposed to but as I said, the signage is poor 0 and how do you tell the difference between red and orange trails on weathered posts?!) Directions to the car park were also less than obvious. In some ways I'm glad it's not easier to find as it means it wasn't busy, and I will go again, but next time I'm taking an OS map and compass!

Went twice... got lost... twice.
Signage needs to be improved. Trying to follow the sculpture trail is near impossible and we managed to see just one sculpture. I took a picture of the map in the car park the second time, which made zero difference. Still got lost. There are actually much better walks to go on locally, following bridal ways and public footpaths. After you’ve seen a few trees... a wood’s just a wood.

Terrifying. I was having a lovely walk....then noticed something in the undergrowth. My three dogs were standing completely frozen next to me. They usually chase anything, pheasants, rabbits etc. it was large and dark and up to now i have been cynical about big cats....never Have I clipped leads on so quick and got out of anywhere so fast. My dogs spooked me and I spooked them. It was either a big cat or a wild pig....but I will walk there again one day.

I went up to Kings wood today with our new dog, I haven't been up for several years but thought he'd like the change. There are many routes that avoid the main sculpture trail so there's no need to take the dog on it and it is an attraction to families with children and younger teenagers.
The car park is indeed spacious and has litter and dog foul bins. Despite this there were condoms and condom wrappers in the bushes lining the car park.
We had several days of very heavy rain last week and despite this I couldn't walk a single metre on any of the paths without coming across multiple piles of dog waste, some individuals had bagged it and thrown it in trees or back on the ground. The weather last week demonstrates most were under a week old and the sheer number was beyond D belief, I had a brief look down the main family trail and found the same thing.
I think I've written no more than a half dozen reviews online in the last decade but this disgustingd me that mych that I felt to need to. Considering it's Easter school holidays the inconsiderate behaviour of a number of dog owners that share the use of the wood is very disappointing.
It was so bad I decided to take the dog somewhere else, in the two decades I have owned a dog I have never felt the need to do that.

We finally escaped using skills we'd picked up from survival shows. We read the moss on the trees, used the sun's path through the sky as navigation, fashioned clothes out of bluebells and squirrel pelt. For a time we thrived but we never stopped dreaming of home. Beware the paths are continually changing (I believe this to be the inspiration to the film mazerunner) and what feels like the right way ends in despair. Still it is a lovely place and the 6 of us will be returning even if only to convince the German chap the wars over and it's safe to come out.

Living in Challock King's Wood is a hop and a step from my home, but I would happily travel to walk in the woods. They are lovely at all times of the year, but especially in April and May when the bluebells are SUPERB. We always encourage friends to visit at this time to take a walk in the wonder that is a fabulous bluebell wood. Plenty of entrances, I rarely use the main car park, the best bluebells seem to me to be further along towards the top of the hill to Wye and Boughton Aluph. Good place for a proper dog walk, often see deer too. You can easily get away from others in this large 1500 acre forest

Are there ever any gun shots from hunts or bird gas guns going off? I’d love to take my dogs, but one of them freaks out at any sort of bang

I would say try early April or even mid april as the daffodils are out but we still have tulips season before the blue bells. As some years ago it has been as late as end of April too. The bluebells last almost 3 weeks i think so hopefully you get to see some.

I have noticed Japanese Knotweed growing on Forestry Commission land, very close to some houses. Some of the trees adjacent to this patch have been painted with numbers in yellow paint. If these trees are to be removed and or soil disturbance is to take place, what will happen to this invasive plant?

Dear John,
Having some experience with the dreaded Knotweed, generally speaking the forestry commission would employ a contractor to remove this or spray it at least. Obviously this will not eradicate the weed entirely. I'm unsure as to what the FC policy is on this so it may be worth speaking to them.
Hope this helps

Where is the car park? We are coming from Ashford

This depends on which way you come! If you come from Challock direction the carpark will be on your left. Quite apparent with a height restriction barrier over it.' There is a slightly smaller car park further down on the left.
