The medieval old town is besides the general layout of the city below-average, but the view from the viewpoints makes this a great stop if you are passing by.

There are quaint, quiet little villages at the northern tip of l'Etang de Berre that miss the flood of travelers moving between Marseille and Salon-de-Provence. Even those taking the routes from the Cote Bleue directly north only visit lakeside villages like Martigues and Istres.
