Crafting Malbec for 132 Years
Oct 2018 • Couples
The Gascon story begins with Miguel Escorihuela Gascon who migrated from Spain in late 1870. He purchased his first vineyard and winery in 1884. Over the next 30 years, this man from a poor farming family became one of the wealthiest in Mendoza and was officially bestowed the honorable title of "Don." Gascon bottled the first pure varietal Malbec in the 1940s. Today, Bodegas Escorihuela still occupies their original site in Godoy Cruz, just outside downtown Mendoza. While the facade of the original building and old train station have been maintained, the interior is a modern and bustling wine production facility. Many of the local employees have been employed for 20-30+ years, and you can see (and feel) the pride they have in their work. Gascon reds are medium-bodied, with a rich fruit flavor and soft finish. Make sure you try the Gascon Reserva Malbec and the special Pequeñas Producciones. Gascon is part of Malbec history and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit here.

The best
Feb 2016
If you are short on time - you can no better than visit this winery close to the city of Mendoza. We did a wine tasting - having just walked in off the street without prior reservation. The staff were very friendly and willing to spend lots of time explaining the different wines. We went with a standard tasting and loved the Chardonnay and Malbec. So much so, that we bought a bottle of each. There is a fabulous restaurant there also - evening only - we did not get a chance to sample the food. Celebrity chef Francis Mallman runs the restaurant.

Romantic and very special.
Oct 2013 • Couples
Bodega Escorihuela Winery was established in 1884. The original stone makes this historic place quaint, with a romantic ambience that is special. A Francis Mallman restaurant, its elegant interior and and outdoor garden dining area make you feel like you have been transported to another time.. Baby goat, mascarpone, and pumpkin ravioli we delicious but the service did not live up to its surrounds.

The 1884 Restaurant in this Winery
Feb 2014 • Friends
When we asked for the 1884 Restaurant, we were directed by our concierge to this winery within, Mendoza. It is a beautiful setting and we enjoyed a drink in the gardens, watching the chefs stoke the fires of the parillo.
We sat perhaps too long over drinks in the garden and the tables filled up quickly. When we decided to move to our table it had been taken inadvertently by a party without a reservation. Embarrassing for the staff to say the least
Quickly they arranged seating; not ideal but satisfactory and were assured that drinks were on the house.
Four of us relished a very good meal, good service after the table gaff and all in all a lovely evening in a most pleasant and elegant setting. Overall the cost was far less than expected.
