Lahinch Golf Club (Old Course) is a terrific links course! The views are great, the conditions were excellent, the course is challenging without being unfair, and the staff is outstanding. I highly recommend you hire Darra as your caddie. He's a relatively young man (just out of high school and starting at university soon), but he knows the course inside and out (he's a member of the club and plays to a 5 handicap). He may be the best reader of greens I've ever met and he helped me 1-putt at least half a dozen holes with putts averaging about 20 feet. You won't be disappointed if you play Lahinch, particularly if you have Darra on your bag!

Thank you for your kind comments following you visit to Lahinch Golf Club. We are very proud of our caddies and it is truly wonderful to hear how Darragh looked after you so well. Looking forward to welcoming you back to the west coast of Clare.

If you can tear your eyes away from the views, keep a lookout for the family of goats.
They were preparing for the Irish Open when we played. The course was outstanding and it was fun to watch the pros on TV playing it later and having some of the same problems that I had (well, maybe not exactly the same problems I had).

The highlight of the round was playing the Old Tom Morris blind par 3. We did not get the large TV screen that the pros used but it was still fun. The weather was terrible, high winds and light to heavy rain, so the people we were playing with quit after 14 holes. But we stuck it out and it was worth it.

As my uncle lives literally 2 minutes drive away, as an avid golfer and recently watched the Irish Open there, I though I would pop in and see what the club is all about. I spoke to a lovely lady (sorry I didn't quite catch her name) in the pro's shop, we spoke about the old course and its little brother, the castle course. I asked would it be possible to go upstairs for a pint and a seat, as I had jeans and trainers on, 'no problem whatsoever, make yourselves comfy!' Needless to say we did, what a friendly place. Royal Liverpool, Birkdale etc take note!

Without doubt I will play this place in the summer of 2020.

See you soon Lahinch

Across the road from the main golf course is a firing range. The young boy working there on the 25th of July was shouting at two men who has walked into the grounds. I found the member of staff to be very aggressive and made our experience very uncomfortable. I feel his way of dealing with the situation was not good practice and reflects poorly on Lahinch Golf Club.

This is the most challenging course that I've ever played. That it rained for 4-5 holes with cold wind didn't help, but OMG what a wonderful course! There are two holes that you have to hit blind, driving in one case and second shot in another where "you just have to go over the white stone." It is a must to have a caddy and our caddy, Anthony, was spectacular. He was in his 25th year and had started at 12! A wonderful fellow, who I would highly recommend that you ask for. Check out the photos online because this is an amazing links course and the only one close to it is Ballybunion.

Delighted to hear you enjoyed your time on the Old Course and you had a great caddie to guide you around the course. The Klondyke (4th) and Dell (5th) were designed by Old Tom Morris over 125 years ago and have remained untouched ever since. These 'quirky' holes remain part of our heritage and history.

Food reasonable but my husband went to order drinks and the older lady at the bar was beyond rude. Cancelled our t-time and left. Poorest and worst service in IReland

Most unfriendly reception of all courses played on recent trip. Starter crabby. Course way overcrowded. Factory like. Group of women in front of us failed to put flag in hole properly 9 of 18 times, allowing it to fall or blow over. Couldn't spot pin on 1/2 of holes. No caddies ( due to overcrowding) and a 6 hour round. Pro shop closed at 5:00 sharp, forgoing sales from our group, though we might not have patronized anyway. All in all a bad experience, though in the past had very enjoyable rounds at Lahinch. It's become a money grubbing operation in my view, personnel with people skills of angry toll collectors.

The golf course was unplayable, even by Irish links standards ... 60 mph winds and driving, puddling rain, with bunkers turned into ponds. Our caddy said no sane person would play, but the club refused to offer refunds or rainchecks. Since we'd paid our €200 each and couldn't even delay until later that day, we carried on. NO ONE in our group or any other finished all 18 holes. It was dreadful. Decided to eat in the restaurant, which it turns out was out of half the menu. However, the service staff had a full load of surly available on demand. We played several remarkable and famous courses during our 2 week visit, but this one day was both surreal and sad.

Our golf foursome prebooked through ScottsAmerica to play Lahinch Golf Club and paid over $150 per person. When we arrived for our 8:10 tee time the winds were near 30 miles per hour. We teed off and torrential rains with thunder began as we approached the first green. We were totally drenched before we could get to our rain suits and our clubs were rendered unholdable. We went to the pro shop and clubhouse and waited over 4 1/2 hours but conditions never got better. We downloaded the weather radar maps for proof of conditions. When we first requested a rain check or refund we were told to wait to see if it cleared. At 12:30 we were told that because we pre-booked through an agent we would need to take this up with him as all refunds had to go to the agent who booked and paid for the golf. We called ScottsAmerica and they responded that Lahinch said the course was open for play and we chose not to play. No golf course in America would allow play in these conditions for fear of the liability. Then as we started to leave the caddy master said we needed to pay the caddies 40 euro because they had waited on us to decide whether to play or not.

Another one of the bucket list of Irish courses ticked off. Well worth the wait all round.
The quality of the course, friendliness of the staff and also the food.
Play the Castle course as a warm up before the main event.
One thought re the pricing in the pro shop. There is a risk you will kill the goose that lays the golden eggs!
