Unfortunately the tasting room and shop were being remodeled while we were there. I guess they started to do the serious work after the summer season had ended. We were there in mid October.
However, the two employees made us very welcome and gave us samples of both the mead and whiskey in the small bottling room that had doubled up as a temporary tasting room.
Great stuff. The mead is worth a sample and the whiskey is interesting since although made locally in Ireland, has a distinctive peaty flavor and is tripled distilled (normally Irish whiskey is twice distilled). It suited my palette since I generally prefer Scotch anyway.
They are not selling product there at this time, but if you want to buy a bottle or two, the Woolen Mill back across the main highway, across from Durty Nelly’s, has all sizes of the good stuff.

Saw the signs and popped in after visiting the park next door. Thought that there would be a tour of the wine making facilities but sadly not, just the show/tasting room. A pleasant lady served us tiny portions (about all I could do anyhow), products available for sale.

After visiting Bunratty Castle and Village we saw a sign for the winery so we decided to visit it thinking it would show wine and mead making. It did not. Was just a shop and gift store in an old farm building. Picked up a souvenir package of mead and left.

Great stop on the way from Galway to Cork. The guys were friendly, we had a great fun chat and good tasting. Ended up buying some mead, how could you not! Would recommend, off the beaten track Irish wine (dessert wine).

We expected a tour based on a travel guide, but were told that it was no longer offered. We waited a few minutes when we first entered before a person showed up and put on an Irish music recording and walked behind the counter.
We were offered a taste of Meade and Potcheen (the only products). Potcheen is the Irish version of American moonshine. Meade is exported, but Potcheen is not. We saw the Meade on sale at other locations but didn't see the Potcheen anywhere else. (We bought a small bottle at the winery).
We were disappointed about the whole encounter and would not recommend.

You have to go back behind the Folk area of Bunratty castle to find the "winery." No tours, but the Mead is great! Worth a stop.

The bar maid at Bunratty Castle informed us that the mead we were drinking was made just a minute up the street so we decided to hop over. Not really much to do or see. They will share a tasting of what they offer and sell their products. My brother having made mead before was happy to discuss their process with the fellow who ran the shop which gave him a good deal of insight, but other than that we could have skipped the stop. Do buy the Mead if you see it. Very nice, not too sweet. It has a great story connected with Honeymooners.

Not sure why they call this place a winery but it was worth the trip. Got to try both the potcheen and the mead. I loved the mead so I bought some small bottles for gifts and for myself. The lady working there was friendly enough but was a bit disappointed that they only two things to try were the mead and potcheen. Takes all of 5 minutes as long as they are open.
