Just returned from a two night break in Athlone and went to Seans bar, the oldest bar in Ireland, on one of the nights. Great craic, great music (Buckeye), lively crowd with a very deceiving size, it's huge!! Seems to be the place to go for all ages.

Sean's bar is reputed to be the oldest in Ireland and it was heaving the night we went, but don't be put off if the front bar is crowded, as there are more rooms behind. It is lively, with live music when we went and definitely worth a visit.

Great atmosphere and very lively on a weekday evening. Nice live music in the main bar and disco in the back.

As you go through the back it opens up to a larger semi open area. staff were extremely friendly. I can guarantee if you go once you'll want to go back. Good music and get there... More

Sat in the beer garden and enjoyed a drink on a lovely sunny Saturday evening. Pub was packed and live music made a great atmosphere. The reason for 4 star and not 5 was the toilets. Very unclean and sooo many fruit flies it made me feel ill after seeing them. I left soon after I seen the flies in... More

We visited here on a Sunday afternoon for a quick drink having read about it on tripadvisor. It was cosy inside with sawdust over the floor. Served a great pint of Guinness and souvenir glasses too for just 5 euros. It's the oldest pub in Ireland and definitely worth a visit!
