Our B+B host recommended we stop here on a self-guided tour of the Burren. It wasn't actually open, but a kind volunteer who was cleaning up gave us a free tour and a history lesson. In it's day, it was a big deal to go to the spa here. Now, there is a big annual matchmaking festival here.

Took a detour here on our trip to the Burren to introduce our 12 year old family member to this important part of our heritage. Unfortunately it was deserted at 4.15pm last week and we could not work out what had happened but whilst leaving the grounds we saw a small sign that said open 10 - 4. We subsequently... More

This has to be one of the greatest stories to be told, who don't know the spa wells it is owned and managed voluntary by the community how a community can work together and bring alive a passion that's was dead for years , for the people of Lisdoonvrana it was built in and around the 1860's but the sulphur... What a disappointment! Apparently there are some renovations going on though we couldn't see any but there is no warning in the village or at the gate that everything is closed. There is a notice apologising and inviting visitors to wander around but that isn't what we had hoped for.

I visited the spa wells in may 2014 on it's reopening and I was amazed at the amount of people that turned up to see it reopen, Its ground's are matched only by the gentry houses in times gone, I was told there are plans in motion to restore the Victorian building's which is great to bring tourist's back there

We thought this was a very well kept place gardens beautifully kept . What a pity it was not opened as there was dancing in most hotels. The spa wells centre used to, in times gone by the centre of the dancing but seem closed down. We visited Lisdoonvarna on the last week of the festivel.

Lisdoonvarna hosts an annual Matchmakers Festival and draws singles from all over the world. Each year, during the month of September, this small village on the western coast of Ireland offers a quest for the romance holy grail to hordes of lonely souls - the capturing of an Irish heart. Ah, 'tis a prize indeed. They say some years the... More
