I’d really recommend visiting the castle if you are staying in either Sligo or Leitrim. Once you have a car it’s very easily accessible.

The castle itself is very impressive and the landscape / lakes surrounding it are absolutely top class. Very photogenic and you will enjoy here if you are interested in history and photography!

The history of the castle and the surrounding area is interesting and impressive but the guide staff are absolutely brilliant, very informative.

Thanks to all of the OPW staff / guides for the excellent information. Definitely worth a visit!

Short but fantastic visit

We arrived at Parke Castle knowing very little about the site. We were given the warmest greeting by the tour guide/site operator, Siobhan, who kindly let us walk our dog in the lawns around the castle. Once inside Siobhan gave us an indepth history of the building and it's occupants, all of which was fascinating. She then told us about a nearby friary, something we had no idea was there and hadn't planned on visiting but were really glad we did.
All in all a 5 star review for Parkes Castle and for Siobhan's welcome and wealth of knowledge. Thank you

Castle on the lake

Saw a sign for the castle and tracked it down.
Beautiful location on the lake, amazing scenery!
The site was free due to covid, but that also reduced access.
What we saw was just gorgeous.

Difficult to review when due to Covid 19 access is limited .
Because of this entry is free for now .
It was nice to have a walkabout and there is information available to explain a bit of the history .

Disappointing

Shameful that the Castle bares the name of an English plantation Lord, and not that of the O’Rourke who was hanged for treason by a foreign invader.

Grand place to visit great lake veiws and interesting place to visit. Posters show refunishment of castle and history. No entry to in doors while covid issues exist. The courtyard is available and on the day we were there toilets were available. They were clean and tidy as was the area surrounding.

Probably the most beautiful place we have visited in Ireland. Stunning scenery along the way and the drive along the lakeshore leading to Parke's Castle was reminiscent of riding along the Italian coast !!!! The weather definitely helped - clear blue sky and warm sunshine. The castle was closed but we could walk around it and there is a decent car park right beside it. Lough Gill was very still - almost like a mirror- and we got some terrific photos.

Beautiful little castle!

This is a beautiful castle on the shore of Lake Gill. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 the castle is not open, but you can still go around and enjoy a picnic in the garden . Very picturesque!
