We enjoyed a nice drive through Baltimore to get to the Beacon & as mentioned in many other reviews its all about the views at the entrance of the harbour . You pretty high up so wise not to go to close to the edge.

A great place to enjoy a picnic & the sunset as you have great views over Cape Clare & Sherkin Islands.

Its 33km from Schull & 13km from Skibbereen , a nice road trip & visit Lough Hyne along the way. The entire route is very scenic

You can also walk along the cliffs if you up to it , a bit uneven so wear good hiking/walking shoes

The views from the Baltimorev Beacon are just unbelievable and just cannot be missed.
It's a half hour walk out from Baltimore along a picturesquer oad. You can drive out to the car park and hike up from there but it makes for a lovely walk either.
The Beacon is so distinctive in itself, psinted brilliantly white and perched atop a promontory overlooking Baltimore Garbour and Sherkin Island. It was built to distinguish the harbour from others do sailors could navigate.
The views are mesmeric, one of the highlights of my trip to West Cork. I had glorious weather so ended up staying for close on 3 hours! So peaceful and fresh, you can walk along the cliff tops around the adjoing bay. A deeply serene and majestic place.

Our waitress on monday night said it was a 10 minute walk. Not sure from where but well worth the trek. The last bit does require scaling walls and sides of a hill so you need sensible shoes but the view was amazing. Wish I had binoculars to see the sea caves of Sherkin Island and further afield better. Some sheer cliffs so not for those scared of heights. Still can't believe it is as tall as it is wide

Difficult for us to get up the path to the actual base of the beacon. However we walked straight ahead over towards the ocean just after we parked and, without warning, were at the edge of the cliff looking down to the water below. Good views

Very nice walk out along the edge of the harbour as far as the beacon. May be very wild if the weather is bad but lovely if the weather is nice.

This is a cool location to visit. The Beacon was built to mark the entrance to the Baltimore Harbor. The views are great. The few watchouts for this visit - the hike is shore - no more than a few hundred meters to the beacon from the parking area. However, some of that hike is at a slope of about 45 degrees - it is a bit of a vertical hike. Also, you need to have proper shoes to climb - the area right at the start (near the parking area/fence) is usually very wet and there is quite a bit of mud -so, don't where those new shoes. Finally, there is no safety fence on the edge of the cliffs. The cliffs are probably 100 feet high, give or take. The wind can be pretty strong - so, watch young kids and be careful with small pets.

Class views of the coastline and the beacon is so unique! Worth the short walk, just watch out for high winds

Lovely walk to the beacon from the beach. Truly a remarkable view with quite a strong breeze on the sunny day we went. Strongly suggest taking the more gradual path for an easier climb to the actual beacon toward the end of the walk. There are some parking places at the beacon but we recommend the walk.

Head up there on a clear day for stunning views. The beacon itself is nothing special but surrounding coastline and views are beautiful. Highly recommend having a little explore once you get up there for the best views. Take care with the weather though, it was quite windy when we went and the gusts were incredible. Small children and the elderly or disabled might find it difficult.
