Bantry House and Garden is a stately home in southwest Ireland situated right on Bantry Bay with panoramic views of the bay and the caha mountains. The estate is owned by Egerton and Brigitte Shelswell-White and is managed by their daughter Sophie and her partner Josh. It has been in the family since the 1700s. The house contains original furniture and objects d'art. The garden is laid out over 7 terraces with a fountain, large wisteria circle and 100 steps leading up to the woodland. The house, garden and tearoom is open to the public daily from easter to october. The estate hosts weddings, music festivals and fairs. We have a separate review page for our B&B accommodation.

Wonderful house and garden, very nice staff. The buildings/ruins are really nice and the stables which has been restored are very beautiful, I think we spend a couple of hours at the house and garden. We had a coffee and tea break in the garden bistro, the cake we had was really good as well as the coffee.

We spent a wonderful morning here with two young kids. House is stunning and the gardens great to explore with kids. Relaxed atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our day. Interesting tour of the house, when we learned a lot about the history of the family who still live here and whose forebears had been here for centuries. Magnificent garden - even better when see from high up - we went up via 3 terraces, totalling 100 steps.

After a fairly long, uphill gentle slope, we approached Bantry House from the side. We descended into the garden in order to have a full view of the front of the house. It was really beautiful, set in well maintained grounds. The view from the house out to sea was truly magnificent. The interior of the house didn't disappoint either.... More

We drove to Bantry from Killarney specifically to see Bantry House, and it was well worth the journey. We loved our visit to this property (and in fact it was my mother's 3rd visit). Being able to explore an intact house with such rare and beautiful items was amazing. We were unable to stay for a guided tour. However, the... More

The foggy weather outside was not well suited to the garden, but even with the fog it was apparent that they were very attractive. The House was worth the visit and the guide was excellent.

I was a bit worried going to the house after reading some of the reviews. Well I am so glad we went, first impressions where excellent, two lovely members of staff at the gate gave us a good run down of what the place was like and answered our questions regarding push chairs etc We were given a little map... My sisters and I all felt that this was a high point of our visit to Ireland. With just a little imagination you can see the house and gardens as they were in their heyday, centuries ago, and sigh at the toll the years have taken. Much of the ongoing work is in the beautiful garden, which is slowly being... More

For years I have wanted to visit Bantry House, and recently I got the chance. I was buoyed up by the photographs that I had seen, however, from the moment we turned into the car park my aspirations started to disappear. A gravel strewn carpark with potholes was not an inspiring initial sight. A small wooden hut with a man... More

John M, You seem to have been deeply affected and outraged by your visit, yet you didn't have the decency to ask to see the management or the owner of Bantry House to vent your anger. Oh no, you much rather wrote anonymously a spiteful review on a public forum, to be read by thousands. You are , of course,... More

I had wanted to stay for a night or two however their B & B accommodation (only 6 rooms) were all booked. On arriving I had lunch in the Tea Rooms and had the best sandwich and coffee in all of...
