Explore this 12km looped road on bike if possible. There's three rental bike shops to choose from (€12 daily). Pack a lunch and your camera. This trail is well signposted all the way round. Few hills at the start and then it levels off. The...More

Well worth driving around. The view is heavenly. It was lovely to see it in winter and contrast it to a sunny day in summer. Just as nice but different.

The roads are very tiny and scary, but the view is spectacular as you make your way through the tiny villages around Sky Road. Unfortunately if you are the driver you will not be able to enjoy the scenic drive. Be sure to take the...More

I have been lucky enough to have had the privilege of walking and witnessing the beauty of the sky road since a young age. Amazing views, great opportunity to get some exercise in and I have also had the opportunity of many pony treks on...More

I sweet-talked my husband into driving this loop on our third day in Ireland, though he was still not completely comfortable driving on the narrow roads. We had been told in town that there were areas to pull off and admire the view, but we...More

This road is amazing, bordered with wild fuschia. It is amazing to think that across the sea is America so far away. This coastline is wild, untouched and really atmospheric.

This was my first time on this route lovely views some steep climbs but manageable even for someone who doesn't do a lot of cycling, might have to walk some of the hills but if any way fit it is no problem.

Narrow and high road at times that lead to great ocean views and rural landscapes with Irish sheep. Worth the drive! What I imagined Ireland to look like in my mind, before I went. So pretty :)

Beautiful small loop with a nice view on the beaches and the sea. Wild landscape. An idea of the end of the earth

Super views and quite a bit of diversity. The road can be quite narrow in places and it is not wise to stop and take photos. It's worth the ride though.

Hi there, Is it possible to cycle the Sky Road? How safe is it? Also where is the best base to see Connemara from? Thanks

Yes it's perfect for cycling which many people do daily starting in Clifden and doing the costal loop anti clockwise. It's fairly hilly so be sure to be some what fit.. The best base to see Connemara from world be Clifden... More
We are hoping to do walks in the area, but aren't clear whether we would be able to walk sections of the Sky Road or whether there are walks nearby. We will not have a car and will rely on buses and possibly taxi's to get to and from walks. Any info about where to walk would be welcome. We are also deciding where to stay --probably Roundstone and/or Clifden. What suggestions do you have in terms of walks we can access without a car and choice of where to stay? BTW we are in our early 70's, in very good shape, prefer walks in the 2-4 hour range --but can do up to 7 hours depending on the situation. Our trip will be in late May.

I would get a B&B or Hotel in Clifden if you are going car-less as the public transit is hit or miss and the distance don't look bad on maps but roads are small, curvy and in season crowded. And I second the comment above... More
I was wondering how far/difficult a climb to the monument is?

Which monument? The Sky road is a long road so I'd need more details to help you.
