We took this drive on the way to clifden the view was amazing but the cyclist along the drive where very dangerous so just be careful. We where sorry we didn't have a packed lunch to enjoy while up there....

Very bad roads. I would not recommend big cars or mobile home to go. Alot of biking people on the road so drive slowly. Also to have in mind is that local drivers are not driving under the speed limit.

Recommend taking something to help if you get car sick as the roads are curvy and narrow, but the views are gorgeous when you make it to the top.

forget city tours etc, if you want to see the real beauty of Ireland, drive the sky road, its just beautiful, i was delighted to leave Dublin behind and just enjoy this drive,

The time tables for 2017 put sunset around 8:14pm on September 1 and 7:08pm by the end of the month.

Yes it is possible to cycle if you have the energy in your legs for steep climbs and are not afraid of steep downhills. Clifden is a good base for Connemara

I would get a B&B or Hotel in Clifden if you are going car-less as the public transit is hit or miss and the distance don't look bad on maps but roads are small, curvy and in season crowded. And I second the comment above... More
