Went in to Daltons Bar to get a drink and we were warmly greeted by the owners and locals as well. Frances was warm and helpful for our stay in Kinsale. Her mom was there as well and very accommodating too. We talked a bit and learned that we would both be landing on Skellig Michael on Sunday.
You guessed it, we met Frances at the top!
Didn’t know about music or rooms, definitely will come back.

As an occasional visitor to Dalton's Pub I've been motivated to offer my opinion in view of one of the few negative reviews on the bar which has very recently been published here. Dalton's is a small local bar with a cosmopolitan clientele, reflecting the local population. It is a friendly well run pub. It is my experience that visitors are always made welcome. Just read the other reviews here and judge for yourself.
Monday night, 9 pm, is music night during the Winter. Last Summer there were sessions Mon., Tues. and Thurs.
The Fear a'TÃ (M.C.) Den Joe manages to provide a very well balanced entertaining programme every night. However, the musicians don't stick to one schedule. You will hear some of the touristy numbers like "The Wild Rover" (I feel a migraine coming on!) but you'll also hear a wider selection of Irish folk songs and tunes in various styles. There is a big audience input, so you may hear unaccompanied songs in English and Irish (Gaelic), poems, recitations or stories depending on what people have to offer on the particular night.
There are many other pubs offering evening entertainment in Kinsale, but any time we have visitors - Dalton's is where we take them. Drop in if you're looking for music in Kinsale on a Monday night and I'm sure you'll enjoy the experience.
p.s. No relationship whatsoever with the owners. :)

Well we walked in to this bar earlier this week because we could hear proper Irish singing it was packed everyone really enjoying themselves . My husband ordered the drinks, me being blonde I didn't realise we were not at all welcome . My husband said drink up we re not welcome . Which was a shame because I could have stayed all night I've read all the reviews on here for this pub but mostly from Americans .
With our English accents . The deep rebel music and the paper cut outs on the wall told us to leave shame

MONDAY, APRIL 28th, approximately 10:30PM...
BARWOMAN: "What can I get you?"
CHUN P: "Um...uh...I'll take a Paddys on the rocks, and how about a Midleton on the rocks too."
BARWOMAN: "Um...do you realize that Midleton is 40euro a shot, and you'll probably get punched by someone for putting ice in it?"
CHUN P: "40euro! Whoa! Make that two Paddys instead!"
BARWOMAN: "You got it!"
CHUN P: "Thanks for the warning on Midleton before pouring it for me!"
BARWOMAN: "No problem!"
Monday blues? Come to Dalton's Bar! Place was packed on this on Monday night! By 11PM, there was barely any standing room at all. Excellent musicians playing, friendly old and young people drinking pints, laughter, and one stupid 6 foot 2 inch tall, skinny, ugly Asian man(me) ordering 40euro whiskey with ice.
Good times!

Dalton's was one of my favorite pubs in all of Ireland. The live music session was absolutely fantastic. They had a group of older men doing a combination of songs, poems, instrumentals, etc. Often folks from the crowd would offer to sing a song and then everyone would turn their attention to the singer and join in at the chorus.
Great fun... not to be missed in Kinsale

Tiny moody bar with wonderful entertainment - the traditional Irish folk band played for 2.5 hours taking requests, allowing pub guests to sing songs, playing popular local ballads and engaging in pub-wide singalongs that were absolutely wonderful. It was the highlight of our Ireland trip ad we cannot recommend highly enough. We spent the rest of the trip trying to find the same in other towns without success.

One of the highlights of my trip to Ireland! If you want real entertainment--local people singing Irish songs and reciting little ditties, you will love this.

This was such a unique experience. The live music on the night we went was Potbelly Folk which was a little group of old men that sat in a circle at a table with guitars and accordions and a number of other instruments and sang very traditional folk music. At times locals would sing solos or do story telling. Drinks were great as well. But the atmosphere is worth the trip alone.

Jim Goode (contact in Kinsale) recommended this place to us. We went on a Monday night when locals were playing. It was one of the best nights we had in Ireland. The locals were amazing. The singing was awesome. Great songs. We were able to get a table near the door to sit and listen to the music. This is not a spot to be missed!

A small homey pub that features live music nightly. Although not necessarily traditional Irish music, the music is sing along venue and it is a warm friendly place to sit back and enjoy the music and company.

Can't help, sorry. The Sunday afternoon we were there it was just local folks singing individually and unaccompanied. Still a great place isn't it,

My wife and I fly into Cork 3oth March to spend a week in Ireland, we will have a car for the week. My sole intention in visiting Ireland is to visit and participate in Traditional Singalong Irish music nights. Can anyone offer some suggestions please? Must be singalong, with all the old favourites.
Thanks in anticipation

I found it most helpful to research on tripadvisor and plan our journey accordingly. We found it took us a lot longer to get from place to place as we chose the trails versus the main roads and found ourselves lost a lot, even with 2 maps and a garmin. But a wonderful adventure. Every village is different so do some research and see what the reviews are. We wisely chose not to drive after dark.
