James Fort is near the beach in Kinsale. You can take an easy stroll from the Dock beach around the headland and wander at your own pace around the ruins. there isn't a guided tour but lots of info on boards.Nice to find such a place.

For those who like having a place to themselves, James Fort is for you - with a bit of luck. A gentle stroll uphill from the riverside and you are in a world apart; of grass, gorse and the grey stone remains of the fort....More

We walked from downtown kinsale to the fort. It's a good 40 minute hike with a bit up hill. The fort itself was great and so were the vistas.

Not exactly the easiest place to find, but worth the walk, especially on a sunny day. Although the main door is closed there is a side entrance. Good views and information.
