We went as a group of 20 people to golf here. The course is beautiful but VERY difficult. There are no markings of any kind, including what hole is what. Very confusing I recommend getting a caddy if you can. No power carts allowed.

I organized a golf trip with 11 friends from Connecticut and playing The Island GC was the golfing highlight of the trip for most of the group. The course is an epic layout and truly memorable links experience. The caddies though really made the day through the quality of their golfing advice (scratch members) and pleasant demeanor. They knew our distances and clubs after just a handful of holes. We were also fortunate to coincide with Andrew Johnston play a round that day who very kindly joined us for a photo. BEEF!

This is a wonderful links course outside Dublin that needs to be on everyone's list. Fair test of golf with beautifully designed holes that are interesting and challenging. Dry weather made the course play fast and hard, and the greens were both subtle and tricky.
On top of the great course are a wonderful, friendly staff starting with the pro and ending with the wait staff in the grill. I'm definitely going back.

This is one of the great layouts in links golf; towering sand dunes with well-shaped fairways weaving through them and some wonderfully set greens. For some reason during a hot summer, the fairways hadn't been watered despite a good irrigation system , and they were bare, patchy and most disappointing. The greens had also been massacred so putts were bumping all over the place. I'd love to play it in good condition as it has a real majesty about it, but why oh why are they building a huge greenkeeping shed right behind the 18th green? The 13th is a superb short hole and the narrow 14th is a classic. Food and welcome in the clubhouse was good but 110 Euros for a round on a course in such poor nick seemed very expensive.

Well what can I say about this place. It is just quite incredible! Every hole is a challenge. There are some absolutely fantastic views as you go around the course that are breathtaking!
For any standard of golfer this is a must play!

On the week of the 22nd of July I attended as Captain of the Munster Senior Golf team for the Interprovincial Championships. I have never been there before. On approach to this golf club you can see that you are in genuine Links Country. As the days went bye and the Competitions progressed I came to like the place even more. There was one slight inconvenience in that we were not allowed to use motorised buggies. The reason was the extremely hot and dry weather. This made it difficult for the other three Captains and myself to try and keep an eye on all the matches. In particular the singles in the afternoon was most difficult. However when I arrived I was met by Brendan Walton who is now assistant professional. I have known Brendan for a number of years and he is a true gentleman. He was more than willing to help and assist in whatever way he could. The practice facilities were top class. You need to be very careful on the approach road as it is very narrow and some vehicles come at you at speed. We then went indoors where the chef an his staff were magnificent. The food was top class. Whatever you wanted you got it. I cannot praise it enough. The bar staff were also very friendly and attended to all our needs. They even assisted in keeping the water cold for Pat and John who were run off their feet such was the demand for water over the few days. This place in my view was the real thing.

Played it about three years ago. It was great then and just when you think you can't improve on perfection they managed to do it? Looks like they are paying closer attention to detail in taking care of the course. Looks like the bar area and clubhouse were spiffed up, too. If you want a true test of links golf (and would prefer to hang with some local members than a large group of American golfers on a tour bus) you definitely need to play this course!

What we found at the Island course just outside of Dublin was that it take all of the traditional Ireland Links courses and combines into 1 spectacular experience.
The first Tee Box is majestic leading out from the clubhouse to surrounded by 40ft Dunes and leading right to the Ocean. Lot's of Character Holes...you want to keep the ball in the Fairway! Definitely take a Caddie...Shane was our Caddie and he was excellent.
Green layout was excellent but we caught them at the wrong time as they had been punch a few days earlier.
Overall a must if you are a golfer and you are in Dublin.

The course is really spectacular and a real challenge. Large dunes, narrow fairways, fast greens and great views. We played on a windy day which makes it even more challenging. A real Links course which we enjoyed very much.
Staff is very friendly, specially the Assistant Pto Brendan Walton was a great help:
A must play if you are in Ireland and you like the Links Courses.

The Island Golf Club, just north of Dublin, is a fantastic track set along the coast. It is a classic Irish Links golf course and one of the best you will ever play. We played it as our last course before returning to the States and loved every shot. It has fair holes (none are easy) and interesting holes and incredibly challenging holes. All you want in a golf course.
We played it at the end of September and the weather was perfect. Partly sunny, a light breeze, and a passing shower. The course condition is championship level. We hired a caddie (all caddies are club members) and his expertise saved several shots. The west of Ireland has many famous links courses, but none can surpass The Isand. Highly recommended.
