Intriguing History of a very interesting unique castle
Jul 2021
We enjoyed an excellent tour of the castle and it's interesting history especially the stories of its original owner Marshall Doran who was tireless in his curation of cultural and natural artefacts transforming the castle into the unique bars and rooms you see today using wood from a Spanish Armada ship to create the two nautically inspired bars and the ceiling of a monastery to add to the sense of being in a ship. The armoury is an impressive collection. The guide was excellent and passionate about her subject. Highly recommend.

Great little Gem to visit
Oct 2019
Great place to visit with kids..there is a fantastic walk for the kids in the Forrest.. There are fairy doors all over the place as well.. The castle itself has a lovely restaurant that serves everything from meals to sandwiches. Really liked the soup we had there.

I would recommend a visit given that it is really close to the centre of Ballina.

Spot on this castle-museum is a must. What a collection and what a tour guide: Stephen - THE curator. He'll show you around the castle, the rooms, the collection and tell you everything about it. Great stuff and very very very different to others!

Delighted to hear you enjoyed your meal at Belleek Castle & thanks so much for your 5 star review! The Drunken Bullock has been served at the Castle for the last 40 years & is our most popular dish! It's the one dish on our menu that does not change as it is so popular. Hopefully see you again in the near future. Kind regards, Stephen

Wish we could have seen and done more!
Aug 2019
We attended an August wedding in Belleek Castle and stayed overnight. We were fortunate enough, the day before, to have toured the adjacent forest grounds with Rachel's Irish Adventures and that was amazing; the forest is beautiful and has some interesting points of interest throughout as well as a faerie forest put together by the local ManShed. The castle is gorgeous. We walked from downtown (with ebags on our backs took about 30-40 mins) and we arrived just in time to shower and dress before the wedding ceremony. They were kind enough to hold a small package I had delivered there so I would not have to lug it around the world. There is a lot of special things to look at and we didn't even see it all.
As far as the wedding as a venue: It is a dream like environment. The stable was used for the ceremony and a quick reception in the main room and dinner and dancing in the basement. Dinner, snacks and drinks were all excellent. It was really nice to stay here. Our room did have a king bed which was nice since my husband is 6'6" tall. We did have a quick breakfast the next morning; but had to dash out for our next agenda item - wish we could have done more. (a local bar patron informed us that this is really a manor house, btw).

Thank you so much for your 5 star review. Delighted to hear you enjoyed the wedding and found it to be a dream like environment for a wedding venue. Wonderful to hear you found our accommodation comfortable and that all food served was excellent. There is definitely lot's of special things to see at the Castle and if you ever make a return visit you should join us for the Castle Tour which is available daily 10.30am, 12am, 2pm & 4pm and is an hour long. We do not open the Castle for tours if there is a wedding as the building is usually hired for private hire but we are open every other day. The Belleek Castle Tour includes an explanation of the origins of the Castle and the history of its former owners, the Knox-Gore family, the Earls of Arran. Learn about the life of Marshall Doran, a sailor & smuggler who restored Belleek Castle. The highlight of the tour is the Marshall Doran Collection, which is one of the finest collections of Jurassic Fossils, Medieval weapons and Medieval Armour in Ireland, fossils and antiques in Ireland. Visitors will also get to see Grace O’Malley, the Pirate Queen's Bed and the last wolf shot in Connaught. Looking forward to having you visit us again. Kind regards, Stephen
