About
Carne Golf Links lies in magnificent unspoiled sand dunes overlooking Blacksod Bay and the wild Atlantic Ocean near Belmullet Co. Mayo in the west of Ireland. Carne was the last links course to be designed by the late Eddie Hackett and it is now believed by many who have played it to be his greatest challenge. The building of Carne has caused little disturbance to this wild and ancient landscape. Tees and greens occurred naturally and very little earth moving was involved in the course construction. Along the course are some breathtaking views over the Atlantic and the legendary islands of Inis Glóire and Inis Géidh

I have been fortunate enough to play most of the best links courses in Ireland and Carne is right at the top of the list I've played it three times and I can truly say its the only course I would say I can't wait to play it again. Its a true links, every hole on the course is a good one. Hopefully next time we'll have time to play the The Kilmore 9 holes, locals say they are even better that the the Hackett course can't see how they possibly could be. Hopefully next year I'll get a chance to see for myself.

So pleased that you enjoyed Carne, and rest assured that the Kilmore 9 holes, now integrated into the Wild Atlantic Dunes course, are truly unique and rank amongst some of the best links golf holes in Ireland, and indeed globally. They really are a must play so on your next visit be sure to play the Wild Atlantic Dunes and let us know how you found it! Look forward to seeing you then..

Often times renewing old acquaintances can be a little Underwhelming but on a very recent visit to Carne Golf Links in Belmullet it was certainly the opposite for me and a group from the Irish Midlands (Michael C etc), Waterford, Dublin, Cork and elsewhere.

Having played Golf through the Decades from Single Figures to now Mid Teens I was looking forward to the Links and was hugely impressed with the overall offering at Carne

The Links at Carne offers all level of Golfers a challenge and an experience not to be forgotten, honed out of the Natural Landscape that Nature provided with minimal interference with The Atlantic Ocean caressing many of the Fairways…. you will walk off this Golfing Gem feeling privileged to have played there.

When choosing your Golf Venues for 2022 I would recommend Carne Golf Links and the Belmullet/Erris area as a destination that you most certainly will enjoy and wish to return to. The Accolades Carne has earned are certainly deserved. The Hospitality is second to none with Gerry, Fiona and Eileen doing for Irish Tourism and Golf all that is good in the Tradition that made Ireland famous through the Years…

Sincerest thanks to Gerry, Fiona, Eileen and all the Staff on the Course and in the Clubhouse..

This is my favourite golf course in Ireland and on this particular day I was impressed with the course conditon. Every hole is different and test your mental and physical ability. The greens and fairways are in superb condition. Bring a camera or phone as you'll want to take pictures. The food was very good and the staff treated us royally.

Have just participated in the Friends of Carne Golf Event in Belmullet. Practice day Friday, Team Scramble and Team Betterball across Saturday and Sunday. With thoughtful course permutations we played all 27 holes across the 3 days. I can only proclaim this course as truly magnificent with the Kilmore Nine in particular being a gift from Mother Nature to the world's golfing fraternity. Add in the exceptional organisation by Team Carne and it's leader Gerry Maguire along with the hospitality of the Belmullet people and you have a golfing package worthy of the attention of golfing folk far and wide. Some might hesitate, considering Carne perhaps too far to travel, but I can advise that the trip is worth every mile. Carne is a "jewel" to be experienced again and again......I can't wait to return. Thank you Gerry and team.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed our Friends of Carne event - it is always very popular due to both the golf and the afters! It is one of our favourite events of the year, as it brings together friends of Carne from near and far for a weekend that has everything in the mix. Hope to see you again next year!

Carne has been on my bucket list for a long time and it lived up to all the hype that is written about it's 27 holes of links golf. Amazing test of golf , through huge dunes, quite unforgettable.
What sets Carne apart from many other destinations however, is the quality of the staff. From Gerry Maguire to everyone working in either the pro shop or the clubhouse we received nothing less than a 5 star experience off the course as well as on it.
I know Belmullet is in a remote location but if you love links golf and visit the West of Ireland then it is a must play venue.

WHAT A COURSE.. spent the weekend in Belmullet golfing at Carne Golf Links.. well worth the 3.45hr drive from Dublin. 3 nines on the course each as spectacular as the next. If you like links golf this has to be one of the best in Ireland. Gerry Maguire and the team in the club house could have not been more welcoming.. Gerry promised us spectacular scenery and golf holes he was good on his promise. Just brilliant can not recommend enough

We're so glad that our course lived up to its' well earned reputation for you, and that you enjoyed your experience here at Carne. We're very proud of the course, and our staff work hard to make sure everyone feels welcome and they are always delighted to get such positive feedback from our visitors. We can't really take credit for the scenery, that is God given, and the golf holes are credit to Eddie Hackett, but thank you so much for taking the time to review Carne. We hope to be able to welcome you back again soon!

Played two rounds last week on the new Wild Atlantic Dunes course, what a treat! The majority of the "new holes" are unbelievable, set in valleys that twist
and turn through the spectacular dunes. I played on two days with very different weather conditions and as expected it felt like a different course which made the experience all the more enjoyable. The greens are in excellent condition and the course in general is kept to the highest standards. Gerry and the team there are excellent hosts and very helpful whatever your needs. I will definitely be returning soon and hopefully be able to enjoy a pint this time.

We're glad that you enjoyed our Wild Atlantic Dunes course, they are spectacular golf holes set in an amazing dunescape, and we're glad to hear that you enjoyed the whole experience that is Carne. Fergus and his greenkeeping team will be delighted to hear your comments on the course, it is a testament to their hard work, as will our hospitality staff, so many thanks for your kind words and taking the time out to review Carne. Our Clubhouse facilities are now fully re-opened so hopefully you can enjoy that pint on your next visit, rumour has it that our Guinness is the best in town....

The views on Carne are amazing. The addition of the Wild Atlantic Dunes track makes for an incredible experience. I have played most of the "bucket list" links in Ireland and this ranks among the best. It is one of those places where it would be hard to pick out a set of your favorite holes because there are so many. While the Hackett is a great course I recommend if you only have one day to play do it on a day the Wild Atlantic is the play which includes the new Kilmore 9 (Carne is a 27 hole facility). Your best bet is to play 2 days in a row and experience both the WAD and the Hackett courses. Definitely not a "fancy place" but it is truly is a place with great routing, design and absolute stunning views. It is a fun place. Certainly a remote location but worth the effort.

We played 27 here as if you make the trip here, you might as well play the whole 27. We started with the Hackett Links, I understand they switch them up every other day, which causes some confusion. We got caddies and I recommend doing so. My caddie was Scott and he was excellent.
One member of the group didn’t enjoy the course, of course he played the worst of the group.
We had a very good weather day to play, a fair amount of wind, but not too crazy and zero rain. The course is hard, but IMO fair. I’m a 14 handicap and was able to hit a driver on majority of all par 4’s and 5’s. Something I can’t say about other link style courses we played.
Some beautiful sights throughout the course, and according to our caddie the middle 9 (or our next 9 on this day) have the best views.
Greens were very slow, which they were all week at all courses.
After playing, make sure you stop by McDonnells and have a Guinness
