About
Carne Golf Links lies in magnificent unspoiled sand dunes overlooking Blacksod Bay and the wild Atlantic Ocean near Belmullet Co. Mayo in the west of Ireland. Carne was the last links course to be designed by the late Eddie Hackett and it is now believed by many who have played it to be his greatest challenge. The building of Carne has caused little disturbance to this wild and ancient landscape. Tees and greens occurred naturally and very little earth moving was involved in the course construction. Along the course are some breathtaking views over the Atlantic and the legendary islands of Inis Glóire and Inis Géidh

I am a PGA professional that takes the students out to great destinations to play golf. I recently took a group to the Carne golf course. There are 27 holes at this facility. The Wild Dunes nine and they Kilmore nine are nothing short of spectacular. The course architect did not use any heavy machinery to create all the rolling hills and mounds that each player encounters. It gives you the feel that you are playing using the natural landscape. The greens are creative without being tricky and a lot of fun to putt on. Several tee locations give players of different abilities enjoyment and different measure of challenges that they can choose. The staff is warm and friendly and a pleasure to deal with. I could not recommend this facility high enough if you want to enjoy a great round of golf in a natural environment in a quaint little town.

Often times renewing old acquaintances can be a little Underwhelming but on a very recent visit to Carne Golf Links in Belmullet it was certainly the opposite for me and a group from the Irish Midlands (Michael C etc), Waterford, Dublin, Cork and elsewhere.
Having played Golf through the Decades from Single Figures to now Mid Teens I was looking forward to the Links and was hugely impressed with the overall offering at Carne
The Links at Carne offers all level of Golfers a challenge and an experience not to be forgotten, honed out of the Natural Landscape that Nature provided with minimal interference with The Atlantic Ocean caressing many of the Fairways…. you will walk off this Golfing Gem feeling privileged to have played there.
When choosing your Golf Venues for 2022 I would recommend Carne Golf Links and the Belmullet/Erris area as a destination that you most certainly will enjoy and wish to return to. The Accolades Carne has earned are certainly deserved. The Hospitality is second to none with Gerry, Fiona and Eileen doing for Irish Tourism and Golf all that is good in the Tradition that made Ireland famous through the Years…
Sincerest thanks to Gerry, Fiona, Eileen and all the Staff on the Course and in the Clubhouse..

I was a member of this golf club some years back but reluctantly had to give up my membership for a variety of personal reasons. This month I revisited with some golfing friends & the weather obliged to make our golfing experience at Carne a truly memorable & delightful experience. We were booked in by Sarah & the second day by Caroline both of whom were very hospitable & helpful. Since my membership days, the course has changed around & the old back nine is now the front nine & of course the old front nine is now the back nine. I'm not sure why this was done but I think it makes for a more pleasant round of golf. The golf course is in perfect shape & the greens were as good if not better than I've ever seen them. Two of our 4 ball had never played the course before & blamed the spectacular panoramic scenery for their poor golfing performance. They can't wait to get back to play it again. Carne is a links golfers dream & a must play hidden gem. In this year of stay cations, I think it is the perfect choice for people spending time in the west of Ireland. It is a delightful experience with 27 holes carved out of towering dunes & a panoramic vista the compares with anywhere in the world. We will certainly be back as soon & as often as possible.

Thank you for your kind comments and we are delighted that you enjoyed your time with us here at Carne. We changed the course routing in order to integrate the newer Kilmore 9 holes with the back nine on the Hackett course to create the Wild Atlantic Dunes course, which offers 18 of the most spectacular links golf holes in Ireland, and we think globally. The next time you visit Carne be sure to play the Wild Atlantic Dunes course as if you loved the scenery on the Hackett course, you will be blown away by the new course. Looking forward to welcoming you back again.

Have just participated in the Friends of Carne Golf Event in Belmullet. Practice day Friday, Team Scramble and Team Betterball across Saturday and Sunday. With thoughtful course permutations we played all 27 holes across the 3 days. I can only proclaim this course as truly magnificent with the Kilmore Nine in particular being a gift from Mother Nature to the world's golfing fraternity. Add in the exceptional organisation by Team Carne and it's leader Gerry Maguire along with the hospitality of the Belmullet people and you have a golfing package worthy of the attention of golfing folk far and wide. Some might hesitate, considering Carne perhaps too far to travel, but I can advise that the trip is worth every mile. Carne is a "jewel" to be experienced again and again......I can't wait to return. Thank you Gerry and team.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed our Friends of Carne event - it is always very popular due to both the golf and the afters! It is one of our favourite events of the year, as it brings together friends of Carne from near and far for a weekend that has everything in the mix. Hope to see you again next year!

This course is truly one of a kind. Played with a large group a few weeks back, everything ran very smoothly by staff and the course was immaculate. Played here before when they just had 18, they now have 27 holes and each one as unique as the last one you played. It’s hard to get any consistently when you play it the first time, because it’s so bloody difficult! So a second visit is a must. The walk is so worth it, you marvel at the sea and the dunes that surround you. It’s really special. The staff in the restaurant were great, really efficient and helpful. The two ladies in the pro shop were so helpful, getting us on the right course and answering our multiple questions!. They now have a Perspex screen erected at the counter, but when the staff come from behind the counter, she made sure to put on her mask to get our buggy and sanitized after handling money/cards etc. Its the norm now, but not every place seemed to do it as much or as properly as Carne. We were planning another trip down soon but I think it will be December or 2021 now, either way, I can’t wait to come back!

Carne has been on my bucket list for a long time and it lived up to all the hype that is written about it's 27 holes of links golf. Amazing test of golf , through huge dunes, quite unforgettable.
What sets Carne apart from many other destinations however, is the quality of the staff. From Gerry Maguire to everyone working in either the pro shop or the clubhouse we received nothing less than a 5 star experience off the course as well as on it.
I know Belmullet is in a remote location but if you love links golf and visit the West of Ireland then it is a must play venue.

We played 27 here as if you make the trip here, you might as well play the whole 27. We started with the Hackett Links, I understand they switch them up every other day, which causes some confusion. We got caddies and I recommend doing so. My caddie was Scott and he was excellent.
One member of the group didn’t enjoy the course, of course he played the worst of the group.
We had a very good weather day to play, a fair amount of wind, but not too crazy and zero rain. The course is hard, but IMO fair. I’m a 14 handicap and was able to hit a driver on majority of all par 4’s and 5’s. Something I can’t say about other link style courses we played.
Some beautiful sights throughout the course, and according to our caddie the middle 9 (or our next 9 on this day) have the best views.
Greens were very slow, which they were all week at all courses.
After playing, make sure you stop by McDonnells and have a Guinness

The views on Carne are amazing. The addition of the Wild Atlantic Dunes track makes for an incredible experience. I have played most of the "bucket list" links in Ireland and this ranks among the best. It is one of those places where it would be hard to pick out a set of your favorite holes because there are so many. While the Hackett is a great course I recommend if you only have one day to play do it on a day the Wild Atlantic is the play which includes the new Kilmore 9 (Carne is a 27 hole facility). Your best bet is to play 2 days in a row and experience both the WAD and the Hackett courses. Definitely not a "fancy place" but it is truly is a place with great routing, design and absolute stunning views. It is a fun place. Certainly a remote location but worth the effort.

I have been fortunate enough to play most of the best links courses in Ireland and Carne is right at the top of the list I've played it three times and I can truly say its the only course I would say I can't wait to play it again. Its a true links, every hole on the course is a good one. Hopefully next time we'll have time to play the The Kilmore 9 holes, locals say they are even better that the the Hackett course can't see how they possibly could be. Hopefully next year I'll get a chance to see for myself.

So pleased that you enjoyed Carne, and rest assured that the Kilmore 9 holes, now integrated into the Wild Atlantic Dunes course, are truly unique and rank amongst some of the best links golf holes in Ireland, and indeed globally. They really are a must play so on your next visit be sure to play the Wild Atlantic Dunes and let us know how you found it! Look forward to seeing you then..
