At the Kenmare Lace and Design Centre we demonstrate the making of Kenmare Lace and many other Irish Laces. Here you can see Antique Lace from the Poor Clare Convent Kenmare from the 19th and early 20th centuries. A group half hour demonstration can be booked for a small fee. We also run workshops and teach lacemaking mainly during the off season (winter) We sell locally made handmade lace, lacemaking materials, kits, books and other souvenirs As well as learning about the technique of lacemaking at the Lace Centre you will learn about our heritage of Irish lace and how Irish women supported and kept their familys going during hard times.

The Kenmare Lace Shop has some interesting examples of historical lace. The shop is closed from 12-2 so plan your trip accordingly. There is no entry fee. However there is a box for donations. It’s a quick stop; maybe less than 1/2 hour.

Interesting lovely little museum with loads of personal information about making lace from the very friendly and passionate staff. You can also buy the handmade lace.

I never appreciated the amount of work and skill involved in the makung if lace especially through the ages. The manual tools on display and the actual weaving in progress is fascinating .( even for a man 😝 ) Well worth a visit 👍

Kenmare Lace is located above the Visitor's Center. The practice of making lace requires patience and great care. Nora Finnegan has passed this art down to her daughters, and they are skilled, informative and delightful. You can watch them work on demonstration pieces of lace.
