The mountain is pretty steep, but a nice hike and a wonderful view from the top!
Halfways there is a wooden chapel - it's a good place to take a rest.
Definitly worth a visit when in Bario.

It is best to trek from July to end September when have dry season in Sarawak. Don't make mastake by planning for 2D/1N ( we almost committed to) . Ideal is 3D /2N from Ba'klalan. Atleast 2pax with guide recommended as less people on trek. After got drop at Lepo Bunga by 4W drive, 4hrs trek to church camp(toughness 7/10 except joy trail with steel gratings), stay overnight at bare minimum shelter in church camp. Guide will & boil water to drink. For shower only red stream water. We feel awsome at church & prey. Early dinner & bed to start 6am next day to Mt.Murud summit 4hrs to ascend(toughness 9/10). Highly recommended to have good trekking shoes ( ankle support & non-slippery). As every step are of different terain, better not compromise by having Kpg Adidas(Rubber) shoes. For guides should be OK as they know place & balance well. 40 to 50% of trek helped with 2 telling poles. Atleast 1 pole advisable. Better to plan your drinking water from base/Ba'klalan. 2 night stay at Ba'klalan was awsome including stroll in village. We stayed at The Owl House Homestay. Great host, place & food too. Good luck

Great walking trail. Beautiful views at top of mountain. Last quarter of trail medium-hard, ropes in place to help. Big steps up. Lots of tree roots to negotiate. Not on a rainy day, could be slippery and muddy. Exhilarating!!!

After a short truck ride from Bario town, you will arrive at the base of the mountain. Trek up the mountain (with a stop at a wooden church built in 1950s) took me 1-1.5 hours. The church was the place of worship of the locals until another new church was built in the kampung (village) at the base of the mountain. Now the church is used only in special occasions. A 20-minute trek from the church will take you to the summit of the mountain, where a huge (at least 15 metre tall) cross was erected. The cross was erected in 2015 to replace an old and small wooden cross. You can see whole of Bario Valley from the summit, including Bario STOLport. Best to bring a walking stick with you as you climb the mountain. If you don't, there might be some wooden sticks left at the base of the mountain (and sometimes next to a wooden bench 10 minutes after you trek up the mountain) for you to use. Be sure to return the sticks to the original location for the ease of the next users.

Usually visitors choose to hike early in the morning to see the beautiful cloudy Bario. I chose to hike in the late afternoon, before 5pm where it's clear from the thick cloud. You can see the whole Bario clearly.
The hike is not quite easy, all the way up. Elevation about 320m, 2.3km. It took me about 33mins to go up & 20mins hike.
Do bring some water

It was an hour hike up and another hour down though we did it in less than 2 hours. We hiked in time for sunrise but earlier it was misty but wait until around 7am till the clouds are clearing and you will get the best view of Bario! A must do when you're in Bario
