May Gibbs' Nutcote is the former house and garden of May Gibbs, one of Australia's foremost children's authors and illustrators and creator of Australia's classic children's' story Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. Nutcote was designed by prominent architect B. J. Waterhouse and built for May Gibbs and her husband, James Ossili Kelly, in 1925. May occupied the house for 44 years until her death in 1969. The house has been listed on the Register of the National Estate and has been furnished to reflect the style of the 1920s and 1930s and includes effects owned by May Gibbs, such as her easel, paint box and folio stand.

This is a great spot to visit especially if you are a fan, but you don't have to be to enjoy it. It's in a lovely, tranquil spot with great views and it just oozes history. I've been three times over the years with overseas visitors who all found it charming. The gift shop is a great place to pick... More

This is the second time we've made the trek while in Sydney to find it closed. Don't trust the Tripadvisor indication of open/closed. Ring or check venue website. Ferry to Neutral Bay (a bit of a hill - 6minutes) or Kuraba Point (lots of steps - 8 minutes).

A lovely look into the life of May Gibbs for all the gum nut baby fans. Beautiful location on Sydney harbour. Conveniently near the ferry although there are a lot of stairs - almost 100. It's not a big attraction, but a lovely piece of history, in a gorgeous location.

Howdy all, May Gibbs is an Australian Legend. This property is where she wrote, drew and painted all her books. It takes every child to an exciting place and opens up there imagination. I have bought many beautiful things here and the staff are excellent and very helpful. Catch a ferry from the city to Kurraba Point on the Neutral... More

A charming home of the 1900's. A must see. And the view of Sydney harbour is surprising. Perfect setting for a great author to create such beaut books.

Catch the ferry and walk up. Really had no choice about visiting, May Gibbs was a favourite of our kids when they were growing up.

We chose a beautiful spring day for our visit and we were very pleased with our experience. 'Nutcote' has a magnificent view across Sydney Harbour and a charming 'old-fashioned' garden with rambling roses (not yet in bloom), but you can see how much garden there is to maintain. The house itself is interesting with a lovely view from almost every... More

A huge effort has gone into bringing this historic site back to life. Thanks to those people who rallied to save it from the developers, otherwise it would have become some pointless townhouses and lost forever. Apart from preserving the life and art of an Australian icon it is also a museum to the era. We spent several hours wandering... More

What a wonderful place to take visitors overlooking North Sydney with a guided tour around the lovely home of May Gibb. After we had homemade sandwiches, coffee or tea and a walk around the gardens truly a littleJem ofAustralian history.

A beautiful house evoking memories of well loved Australian book characters. There are very few of May Gibb's possessions. Worth a look if you have nothing else to do and love Snugglepot.
