The Museum has a Family History research centre. I went down to Cornwall to research my family ancestors. The volunteers were extremely helpful and friendly. Found a very important missing link for me.

...the smallest museum you ever visit but, also, one of the more welcoming. The staff at Saltash Heritage Museum are great. My visit was serendipitous, having been down to the waterside and noticed the heritage trail and, of course, the museum fits neatly into your heritage trail (look at what else is close by - a shop 'left in time' and the cottage where Sir Francis Drake's wife lived).

The museum has a new theme each year which means some of the displays change though that makes it appear to be a large building. It's not. To get a feel for life in this historic borough in times gone by, do include a visit in your trip to the town, it won't take very long. Note, that it's located just 'below' the main shopping area and could be missed.

Saltash Museum is a lovey hour spent looking through the history of Saltash and Saltash during the war.
3 shops down from the museum is another lovely store called Elliot’s, and is a quant old fashioned store from the fifty’s sixties era well worth a visit.

Maintained by a dedicated and knowledgable team of volunteers, this centre gives a lovely flavour of the history of Saltash, with lots of surprising artefacts on display.

It was great to come across this hidden gem while walking to the railway station to see the Flying Scotsman. It was very well curated. It had lots of displays some very unusual, all of them documented so you could read all about what you were looking at. They hold a lot of different archives including census return records, parish records and over 30,000.00 documents. They are experts in Family history and all aspects of life in the Saltash area. There is a research room on the top floor and plenty of local volunteers who will answer any questions you may have. We found it very interesting. There is also a local archaeological group running the Tamarside Archaeological Survey. Entrance is free.

Many people have come from all over the world to find out where their fore fathers originated as many Cornish miners emigrated and their long lost families found but equally an amazing collection of photographs of Saltash, Cornwall and beyond..

WW1, an eclectic mix of memorabilia and a research room upstairs with volunteers that would be very helpful for genealogists. However, opening hours is limited so check their website before visiting. Usually open Wednesday 14.00 to 16.00 and Saturday 10.00 to 16.00 and in the summer also open Friday.

The Heritage Museum is a nice glimpse into the past history of Saltash, when Saltash was more a working part of the river Tamar with ships and barges tieing up and the ferry crossings the river. Now there is two bridges and not much work on the river how times change, the high street has had lots of changes over the years with businesses coming and going it is a nice place to see the past and work out what has taken its place.
