Had visited Matlock Bath twice before , but never had time to pay a visit to the Museum. What a gem! Had the tour of the mine first, very interesting, very imformative guide and my son loved the panning for gold after. The Museum was packed full of interesting information, and my son loved it when he 'followed the footsteps'... More

Pretty good for a local museum. Lots of effort made to give details for people interested in detail but plenty for people less directly interested in lead mining. Some nice bits of climbing for the kids (and vaguely flexible adults). Worth an hour.

Came across this museum today simply because we parked in the car park right next door. My husband wanted to go in because we had visited mining museums previously in Cornwall and he has discovered a fascination for it, well I can say we had a great morning! The staff were lovely, the lady who greeted us on the front... More

Because of time constraints we could only look around the museum and not do the mine tour. The museum itself was interesting and had lots of information and items. There was a fun bit were we climbed ladders and crawled through a mock up mine. For the price it was worth a visit but would have liked to do the... More

I don't know about you but when I go on holiday I can't be doing with sitting in the sun and doing nothing. In short I need stimulus and that means touristy things. The Lead Mining museum and Mine tour fit in perfectly with this. The Museum has been very well put together with a great deal of thought going... More

First time visiting this museum, all the staff were very friendly and knowable about Derbyshire mining, museum is on two floors assessable for wheelchairs downstairs a chair lift is available to get upstairs with a wheelchair at the top. Went into temple mine across the road and up a steep hill, hard hats provided lasts about 35mins, not suited for... More

We came upon this place on a VERY wet Saturday morning. The museum is so interesting. There is lots of detail in the exhibits which are very interesting if you are into mining/geology or in our case particular sections that caught our interest. My son loved the sections you climb through to get a feel of how confined a mine... More

Cheap as chips trip down the lead mine by foot. We were a big group , 20 people, taken for a wander down the mine. There are low ceilings in places and it is very cramped in many areas, but this gives you asense of what it was like to work here. An enjoyable and informative trip that concludes with... More

The museum will give you a really good insight into the growth of Matlock Bath and the lead mining industry that kicked off its foundation. Kids will like the interactivity while adults will appreciate much of the information provided. You can also book one of the popular mine tours from here, via a combined ticket.
