Lovely railway which very sensibly interfaces with the Derby to Matlock trains so that you can get there by rail very easily with time to get off the Derby train and onto the steam and vice versa at the end of your trip. Currently hauled by steam one way and diesel the other which was fun. Lovely comfy seats and covid precautions in place to separate groups. If starting from Matlock you buy your ticket on the train. Good refreshment room at Rowsley. Plenty of time to take photos each end of the line. Rolling stock in very good condition.

A very plesent trip through some lovely scenary. The Staff are very friendly and helpful. I believe that most, if not all, are volunteers. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

We enjoyed this leisurely chugging up and down, despite the wet weather. It's a simple trip which, as far we could see, the punters enjoyed. Quite a few devotees of steam on it who evidently enjoyed the chance to scrutinise the engine at close quarters. Obviously an enjoyably serious hobby for those involved. Smart uniforms worn, helpful staff, 20 minute wait at Rowsley while diesel added for return trip. If you like steam trains, give it a try.

Bravo to this heritage railway for keeping the show on the tracks during what's been a difficult time. Pre-booking (obligatory) was easy, and Covid-related safety executed with thoroughness but no fuss. The train (pulled by a lovingly-restored small tank engine, and helped a little by a diesel loco at the rear) took a leisurely 20 minutes or so to travel the five miles to Matlock. Once there, plenty time for photos and chats with the drivers, etc, before our similarly slow return journey. Then a cuppa and a picnic on the platform. Magic!

A complete waste of time and money. Doesn’t even warrant 1 star. We were 15mins late to depart (why?! No idea, we weren’t told anything. I imagine it was some latecomers holding it up but in my view, it should depart as advertised) so no time to get off the train at Matlock and take pictures. We got to the doors to just be told rather curtly to get back on the train as there wasn’t time to stop. Absolutely zero customer service. Staff rude and just wandered about aimlessly. Actually can’t find the words to describe our experience. It was just an absolutely pointless waste of a morning. Very very poor - I couldn’t wait to get off the train and leave. Avoid.
