nice pub with good service despite being busy.
Nov 2021
After visiting parts of the peak district, we travelled through Bakewell to find a place to have a nice drink. There are a number of pubs in the area but we settled on this one as it wasn't serving food and we just wanted to stay for drinks. During busy times, like any other pub in the area, it may feel a bit cramped. However, we didn't have any problem finding a table. The service was very quick despite being busy, and what particularly drew our attention was every customer got a smile, which is nice to see in really busy pubs

There are two entrances to the pub, which make it easier for access during busy times. a good selections of wines, beer and spirits were on offer.

We felt relaxed here even though it was busy and will definitely return again.

Cosy
Oct 2020
We enjoyed a drink in this smart and comfortable pub which on a chilly evening was thankfully warm and cosy. One of the female members of staff was particularly friendly and helpful when suggesting nearby pubs with vegan options on the menu.

Nice homely pub
Dec 2019
Traditional pub serving lots and locals and visitors alike. Do not serve food. Host an excellent quiz night. Friendly local staff. Landlord works hard to make a homely atmosphere.

Ok bar
Aug 2019 • Couples
We popped into this pub for a drink whilst visiting Bakewell, it is ok for a drink, the staff were OK, the decor was ok, some comfortable chairs in there to have a rest whilst having your drink. The toilets were ok, could have been a little cleaner, I would say there are better places to have a drink in the town but go here just to see what it is like.

Miserable Staff, Ok beer if you like Marstons.
May 2018 • Couples
Popped in after being reccomended it by a local. there was no-one at the bar, waited for quite a while wondering where the bartender might be, said 'hello, is anyone here?' and a disgruntled youngish man appeared and said, ' i was only gone for a minute!' as if we'd bothered him or something, it's understandable to need the odd toilet break if youre working alone but seemed odd that he'd be annoyed at us wanting to be served, he continued seeming very grumpy. the beer we had was grim, though admittedly we aren't fans of marstons (all that there was on cask), so should have known better than to bother. Can't deny that the beer was about as well kept as it could be given the quality of beer to begin with. the beer garden was ok, essentially just a yard with a few tables in.

Unfriendly barman with poor customer attitude
Apr 2018 • Couples
Popped into this pub 26.04.2018 late afternoon to get out of the rain and enjoy a glass of wine.
The pub wasn’t busy and the barman looked miserable and fed up.
We ordered a beer and a glass of Pinot Grigio. I tasted the Pino which tasted off and had a definite fizz to it. My husband tasted it too and we agreed it was off. He politely explained the problem to the barman who said it was meant to have a fizz!!!! Pinot with a fizz 🙄.
We may not be wine connoisseurs but we’re not stupid. After explaining it wasn’t drinkable he reluctantly changed it.
Not sure why you would choose a customer facing job when clearly it makes you miserable and unfriendly with a stinking attitude?
There are great pubs in Bakewell with incredibly friendly people hence there is no reason to frequent this one!

Knocks spots off The Peacock!
Mar 2018 • Couples
Visited here for the second time on a freezing cold day in March. We came here a few years ago during a week’s stay in Bakewell and received the same welcome this time around. We didn’t want food so this suited us fine, having started off in The Peacock next door which was empty with no one serving so we’d left. What we saw of the food looked good though.
Staff here are really friendly, and there’s a good atmosphere with a roaring fire, great conversation and lots of regulars. It’s a bit of a strange layout but once you get used to that we felt really settled and relaxed. A dog friendly pub so lots of people visited with their four legged friends. One off visitors and regulars treated equally, nice banter if you want to be included, or equally left to your own devices if that’s your preference.
Our go to pub in Bakewell now so went back a few times during the week.
A warm welcome goes a very long way!

Excellent Pub
Oct 2017 • Couples
Been going to Bakewell for years and never been in this place, what a mistake! This is easily the best pub in Bakewell, really nicely decorated place, very friendly staff and they really know their beers. Will definitely be back next time we’re in Bakewell, absolutely wipes the floor with the Peacock next door.

The Best pub in the Peak District
Oct 2017 • Friends
If you are in the Peak District on a Monday this is the place to be. Fresh cooked food & fabulous real ales. This is a gem if you visit Bakewell, forget the rest go straight for the best.
