We popped into this pub for a drink whilst visiting Bakewell, it is ok for a drink, the staff were OK, the decor was ok, some comfortable chairs in there to have a rest whilst having your drink. The toilets were ok, could have been a little cleaner, I would say there are better places to have a drink in the town but go here just to see what it is like. It does not serve food.

I stayed here for the Bakewell Baking Festival, was working all weekend and looking for a good place to stay where I could relax at night.
I booked it six weeks in advance and rang the day before to confirm my reservation. The first night was fine, yes there was some noise on the Friday evening but what could we expect it's a pub. However, we were not at all prepared for the live band on Saturday evening who we could hear perfectly and word for word on the Saturday evening. We were not informed on either of our booking phone calls that there would be such loud music on the night.
We went down to the bar twice to ask what time it would finish - midnight they said, no apology. We were told that we could leave and find a different place to stay - at 10pm at night!
The service was awful and when bringing it up with the landlady in the morning she was extremely rude, not at all understanding and detailing to us the overheads and costs she has to pay, VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. There was no offer of compensation or apology on her behalf and she compared us to all her other customers. Surely ever customer is different? She also laid the blame on us for not seeing the posters about the band (we live in London) and on her barman for not telling us on the phone, whom she then told us she would FIRE for it!
I would not recommend staying here if you want polite and friendly service.

Popped in after being reccomended it by a local. there was no-one at the bar, waited for quite a while wondering where the bartender might be, said 'hello, is anyone here?' and a disgruntled youngish man appeared and said, ' i was only gone for a minute!' as if we'd bothered him or something, it's understandable to need the odd toilet break if youre working alone but seemed odd that he'd be annoyed at us wanting to be served, he continued seeming very grumpy. the beer we had was grim, though admittedly we aren't fans of marstons (all that there was on cask), so should have known better than to bother. Can't deny that the beer was about as well kept as it could be given the quality of beer to begin with. the beer garden was ok, essentially just a yard with a few tables in.

Popped into this pub 26.04.2018 late afternoon to get out of the rain and enjoy a glass of wine.
The pub wasn’t busy and the barman looked miserable and fed up.
We ordered a beer and a glass of Pinot Grigio. I tasted the Pino which tasted off and had a definite fizz to it. My husband tasted it too and we agreed it was off. He politely explained the problem to the barman who said it was meant to have a fizz!!!! Pinot with a fizz 🙄.
We may not be wine connoisseurs but we’re not stupid. After explaining it wasn’t drinkable he reluctantly changed it.
Not sure why you would choose a customer facing job when clearly it makes you miserable and unfriendly with a stinking attitude?
There are great pubs in Bakewell with incredibly friendly people hence there is no reason to frequent this one!

Been going to Bakewell for years and never been in this place, what a mistake! This is easily the best pub in Bakewell, really nicely decorated place, very friendly staff and they really know their beers. Will definitely be back next time we’re in Bakewell, absolutely wipes the floor with the Peacock next door.

We went to this pub on Sat 18th June when we were camping at the Eroica festival in Bakewell and wanted somewhere to watch the England v Australia rugby game - no pub in Bakewell had Sky Sports, and the advertised rugby pub The Manners landlord was not at all friendly and deliberately didn't open to let us in, so after waiting until 11:10 we went to this sports friendly pub instead - along with a few others with the same idea to use the free WiFi to watch it on our iPads. Much friendlier atmosphere, we were made to feel really welcome, and it was great having a few others all trying to watch the game and discussing it (all obviously big rugby fans and knew what they were talking about) and when we won 23-7 everyone was elated, and we had won the series :) the landlord was extremely friendly, and my husband got on even better with him when he discovered he had also been a Royal Marine (hubby had his Royal Marine rugby shirt on). The beer was good, and the atmosphere was great and the staff were good - all you need in a pub really. We didn't stay for food unfortunately, but would definitely go to this pub again if in Bakewell.

We enjoyed a drink in this smart and comfortable pub which on a chilly evening was thankfully warm and cosy. One of the female members of staff was particularly friendly and helpful when suggesting nearby pubs with vegan options on the menu.
