What people are saying
Zero covid controls when the transmission rate is at its very worst
Dec 2021
I forced myself to go and see The Matrix Resurrections, which is one of my favourite film franchises. I was somewhat angst about Covid being at its worst infection rate since the pandemic began, but I was reassured by Cineworld's promise of 'safety measures' to control it. The so-called safety measures were NON-EXISTENT! It is currently a legal requirement (in England) to wear a face mask in the cinema, which was one of the main factors in my decision to go. However, there is a pretty big loophole that you can remove it to eat or drink, so naturally that gave about 80% of the audience an excuse to not wear it at all. There was no enforcement of mask wearing by Cineworld staff. A single hand sanitising station was hidden in the corner of the lobby, where you would hardly notice it unless you went looking for it. Needless to say, no-one was using it. I had heard that after Cinemas were allowed to re-open after the first lockdown, that they were leaving spaces of 1 or 2 seats between different groups of guests. I assumed this would still be the case as it was a really good idea, but sadly it isn't. The cinema was packed, with no spaces between strangers at all. I also heard that they stopped showing so many ads and trailers beforehand to reduce the amount of time you were in there, but they were back in abundance. The moral of the story is, Cineworld is back to putting profit before safety. Even when the government legislates to try and protect us it gets ignored. PLEASE take your safety into your own hands and stay away from this place like I will be doing from now on.

Cineworld Chesterfield is badly in need of refurbishment. If it didn't have a monopoly in the local area I'm pretty sure it would have been by now, but as it stands we are left enduring a 20+ year old facility or face travelling 15 miles to Sheffield (which a lot of people now do). Because a lot of people head further afield it means even big blockbusters can be practically empty on opening night, which might sound like a positive to some but it leaves the auditorium devoid of atmosphere. The seats are very uncomfortable and seriously lack leg room. You will be battling the person sat next to you for the arm rest. Some of the screens are very small, with some rows of seats that are not sufficiently higher than the row in front, so you can spend the duration looking at the back of someone elses head. It wouldn't be so bad if these smaller screens had cheaper tickets, but they don't. Everyone expects cinema food and drink to be expensive but here it's just blatant daylight robbery. No, we don't 'have' to buy food and drink, but then that's just something else to kill the cinema experience if you don't. I used to enjoy going to the cinema but now I only endure it for the films I absolutely can't wait to see.

What would help....accurate time of film starting given on info sheets not the flipping trailers, my children can't manage both..
More seats in foyer please for those waiting to go in..
Decent coffee..I've never had one which I've not returned or binned..Basically hot Brown sour liquid.

Biggest gripe is the queuing behind popcorn buyers that adds big wait time for counter tickets. So book ahead or use machines....BUT surely Cineworld can give one member of staff for tickets only booth..customer service for people who.need to ask questions and are ticket only customers. yes that could work!😀

On the whole what saves this cinema is the overall helpfulness and attitude of staff towards our special needs family.
A lost/found meeting point could help too or a lanyard/sticker for people who appreciate added help and understanding..

I really would like Cineworld Chesterfield and Sheffield to start adding some actual coffee to there coffee machines. I visit regularly both places and every time I have a "coffee" but only ever tastes of powdered milk with a hint of coffee. Come on Cineworld you are better than this, stop taking YOUR customers for idiots. We pay the price you ask, give us what we pay for!!!!!.

Be warned. If you go to the cinema and use your ticket to get a discount at one of the eatery places, you risk being fined £60 for going over 5 hours. We would have had to leave the film before the end in order to be within the time limit as we had eaten first and the film was long. This is robbery , they say the reason is because people parked there and went into town for work. Fine, they are not patrons. But people who have not left the site and can prove it should not be fined when the eateries are encouraging people to eat there and stay longer.they suggest you move the car , where to? Do they want people to park on the main derby road?
The council need to do something before people stop going there. I won’t be going to that car park again,

Watch Dune in Screen 6. Clean, tidy, good sound and screen system. Staff were friendly and polite. Parking was easy. Only let down was the salted popcorn had lots of sweet popcorn mixed in by mistake.

Took our grandson to see a children's movie.
The prices of snacks, sweets etc are increasingly extortionate.
Why do we, especially young children, have to endure 30 minutes of commercial advertising and trailers before getting to see the movie that we have paid to see? Bad enough for adults but really not fair for children's programmes.

This is a review of the cinema complex not the film which was enjoyable but its a shame about the cinema that is in serious need of an upgrade. It was really cold in the cinema itself. The seating is grubby and stained and uncomfortable - narrow seating with bearly any leg room between the seat and row in front. Having to select a seat when purchasing tickets - why ? Another well known cinema don't operate this policy - really can't see the point. On a positive note the staff were friendly and welcoming. Wouldnt visit Cineworld cinemas again until seating is upgraded to allow more leg room and comfort - and warmth.

We had a very rainy week on our family holiday nearby so a trip to the cinema (to see 'Horrible Histories'!) was just what was needed! I don't tend to go to our local Cineworld as we have so many other better chains available locally, but this is the only choice in the area - from another recent review it looks as if you have to go all the way to Sheffield if you want a top notch experience.

It is a huge complex with a very spacious foyer. Parking outside was easy when we arrived mid-afternoon, but on another visit that week (in the evening) to the leisure park to go to a restaurant, the place was packed due to the cinema, many restaurants and a health club. I would err on the side of caution and arrive early, especially at peak times.

Staff were plentiful, efficient and friendly, and the cinema seating area and toilets were all clean.

Sound and vision quality was perfectly adequate, but as stated before, for a better quality experience you would need to travel further afield.

Seating was a bit strange as it did not feel particularly well-raked; though having said this there was enough leg room and actually the people in front did not obstruct our view. However, there was no VIP seat option, which we are used to in the other chains near where we live.

It's a reasonable cinema but I would say if there is a special film that you are really looking forward to and want to see in the best quality definition and sound, and in top quality seating, you may wish to make the effort to travel further afield.

Beware busy times at McDonald's as the drive through queue blocks access to the whole parking area of everything on the site - if its Saturday lunch (or any other time you expect McDonald's to be busy), expect to wait 20 mins to get from the main road to a parking space (even though its only 30 metres) - not Cineworld's fault in any way, but certainly detracts from the experience! Cineworld, have you ever taken the landlord to task on this?

Last visit the film was out of focus (usually it's fine) - I thought there was something wrong with me! Left the screen, spoke to one of the staff who said they would look into it, and was fixed after about 15 mins. Not really what you expect from a cinema, but at least it was resolved quickly.

Don't start me on food prices - do cinemas in general understand just how much it annoys people (on principle) which in turn pushes them to watch steaming services.
