Go many times to Chesterfield railway station to pick up my daughter who travels from Manchester to visit us. The station is a very welcoming place and I only started noticing the statue with picking my daughter up.
No, not Elton John! Our own inventor of Stephenson’s Rocket. I always take a peek when collecting our visiting family members from the Railway Station. He was decorated appropriately at Xmas. I’m surprised there is no England scarf on him with the World Cup ongoing!
Its a very good statue of George Stevenson that is situated at the entrance to chesterfield train station. It's a great welcome to Chesterfield's historical town. Shame this statue usually has a homeless person next to it, begging.
The statue of George Stephenson outside the railway station at Chesterfield is very topical, bearing in mind his connection with the area. Its a really good way to welcome visitors and locals alike to the station.
