Went to see the gardens but was very disappointed with them. Paid £5 which I think it was a rip off, some path were so narrow two people could not walk together

My mother & I have wanted to visit for a while and never got round to it, so I went onto the website and emailed just to make sure they were open - I had a very prompt and friendly reply stating they were open that day and 2-5pm, so we arrived to a stunning location (we had been before... More

We visited this lovely spot today, and unfortunately arrived an hour early. A very friendly and helpful gentleman very kindly gave us details of some lovely local walks to pass the time. After returning from our walk with the dogs when the manor had opened, we enjoyed the beautiful, very well maintained grounds and stopped for a cream tea, for... More

Thanks Sarah B for your generous review. It was a pleasure to meet you and I'm really glad you came back after a walk in the valley. I will pass on your appreciation to the team in the tearoom and the garden. Thanks, and see you again soon! More

Like so many places we drive past, the sign on the main road intrigued us so yesterday we finally turned off to go and find it. The narrow rather precarious road down to the car park was worth it...... as we parked next to the lovely river (dogs and children splashing around it it) I felt all the tension from... More

We went to Iford Manor on a balmy summer day and it couldn't have been more perfect. This beautiful hillside garden was the perfect antidote to the busy atmosphere of Bath. Set alongside the burbling River Frome this Italianate treasure is tranquil and unfussy and although there are steep steps up to the top of the garden there are other... More

Hi Nichotroup, Really glad you enjoyed your 'meander' up through the gardens here and thanks for taking the time to review us. I hope we'll see you again soon for another leisurely cup of tea at the Loggia (weekdays) or in the housekeeper's tearoom (weekends). Thanks! More

Found this garden in RHS handbook, so we planned visit. Found the garden was enchanting, with gorgeous plantings and spectacular views. The whole experience was wonderful. Plan to visit again.

Thank you so much for your visit, and for taking the trouble to put your comments here. We very much look forward to seeing you again, perhaps in a different season - try late May / early June for the wisteria, and extremely important element of Harold Peto's designs here. More

Truly impressive gardens are a labour of love, and it can take decades for a garden to grow into maturity, sometimes longer. True, this creation has been around for over 100 years, but nonetheless, some of the areas of Iford left me speechless - the Oriental/Japanese garden in particular. Heavenly! You could have millions to spend but you wouldn't be... More

Hi Fuddam, thanks so much for your encouraging words. We really enjoyed meeting you and I'm really pleased that you felt so at home in the garden here - that's the essence of Iford: to just sit and be, and take it all in. Hope to see you again soon - you'll be more than welcome. More

We visited on a hot afternoon it cost five pounds for O.A.P price. The gardens were very steep and lots of steps not good for the elderly , no hand rails for aids at the steps there was no seating around the gardens except for the "Temple area " certainly no shaded areas to sit and enjoy the garden. The garden itself... Dear 475Pam, It's always painful to read of the rare bad experiences that people have, but your review has particularly wounded us, since here at Iford we pretty much spend our lives as a family and team maintaining the historic gem of Harold Peto's house and garden and the beautiful countryside in which it is set. I am sad that... More

Iford Manor is a treasure well worth looking for. Sitting on the border of WIltshire and Avon and Somerset, the Manor has the river Frome running passed it and there is a beautiful bridge right outside the entrance to the Manor. Sadly, we only had time for refreshments but we all opted for a delightful cream tea with home made... More

Thanks for your review, 430AndrewM, we're really glad you enjoyed your visit and hope that you will return and see the garden soon - if you don't make it this year, try late May or early June for the wisteria blossom. I read about the Peto Garden before visiting, it was a planned visit. There is plenty of parking just over the road and ample space for a picnic if you wish. The gardens are on a hillside with stunning views of the local countryside. We enjoyed walking around the gardens, which contain different areas, i.e. Japanese. The gardens are very... More
