About
Tam O'Shanter Farm is a small urban farm on the side of Bidston Hill. It has existed for decades but has had a new lease of life in recent years. With a variety of animals to see, two play areas and an on site cafe, its a great place for a day out with the little ones. there is no charge for admission but as we rely entirely on public donations, we hope you feel able to support us when you visit.

Great Place for Small Children!
Apr 2021 • Family
First time visit with an excitable 2 year old. We all loved it! Goats, sheep, rabbits, ponies, ducks and alpacas - all the animals small people love!

There were two play areas with three full-sized static tractors, which were all very popular! There is a cafe here you can buy snacks or something more substantial. There are also picnic areas. Usual toilet facilities and hand washing stations.

It’s charity run and so depends upon the generosity of the visitors (free entry btw). Free parking nearby but as this is a popular attraction you may need to seek out a parking space. Many pre school age children were all having a wonderful time. You could spend up to half a day here depending on weather.

This is well worth the support of locals.

Run down and unkept, I appreciate the animals are well looked after but there is nettles/prickles everywhere. Dont you have care takers? The new playground frame is far to high for any child under 3 also :(

Hi Joy. Sorry you didn't enjoy your trip to our farm. We are a very small charity and have had virtually zero income for almost 18 months. Our resident farm managers are currently wrapped up in keeping everyone covid safe, so yes there may be a few nettles around, but hey - its a farm. It has never looked so good and we are proud of the huge improvements we have been able to make during the closed period. We do not recommend any child under 5 uses the new playground - but its up to parents to manage that. One day - when we actually have some money to spend, just maybe we can have volunteers to help again, for now we are very lucky that our manager works 24/7 and has not had a day off in 3 years!

2 year old loved it
Sep 2020 • Family
Visited today with my husband and 2 year old little girl.
It had a one way system in place and people checking your temperature and taking details at the entrance-it felt safe.
My daughter loved seeing the animals and watching her dad feed them. The pots of food are decently priced (£1 each) especially considering it’s free to get in and park.
It doesn’t take long to go around and wish they had a few more animals but it was perfect for our toddler. Will definitely bring her back.

Chicken-filled birthday!
Oct 2019
My daughter came here last year for her 11th birthday and she loved it. She got to go on a chicken experience with Colin and his 15 Clucks. Her favourite animals are chickens and she absolutely loved it. She's 12 now (In August) and wanted to go back, but sadly we couldn't because the Urban Farm was closed. It's a lovely experience.

(I put October 2019 since that was the furthest back it goes)

Saw this online re google and we absolutely loved it, free entrance, free car parking, when we phoned up to make enquiries we were told to speak to Colin as we travelled a long way, over 60 miles they gave my grand daughter a special treat, to interact with the hens, she loved it, plenty animals to see, goats, sheep, pigs, pony, hens, lovely afternoon out.

Great Urban Farm
Feb 2020
we visited on rainy half term friday, the weather didnt affect the day, all animals out and love to be fed, visited the cafe and food and service is great, good prices too, the lady in the craft centre was very pleasant and welcoming, the crafts are excellent and again well priced, and all helps the running of the farm as with no entrance fee and free parking, this all helps, so donate if you can, or even buy some food, but if you cant, then no problem, still visit

Great day out for pre school kids.
Oct 2019
I would definitely recommend Tam O'Shanter farm to anyone with a child between the ages of 0-5 years. It's a beautiful little piece of land that has lots of parking and is free. You can pay £1 and get some animal food. The animals are really tame and have no problem with little kids feeding them. There are also lots of places to wash your hands once you've touched the animals. There is a cafe too which is very reasonably priced.
