I was lucky to have a round of golf here as a present from my wife for my birthday. I did play in probably a hurricane force wind, which was fine once it was behind me (about half the time) and I did hit my longest ever drive on the 4th (thank you gale force wind).
The course is spectacular in its presentation, the view from the green on the 6th is just one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. The 16th is probably the scariest tee shot I've ever faced (stay left!!!).
The facilities are superb, the chipping area has everything, smaller versions of the bunkers that you'll face on the course, undulating green areas and all the practice balls are freely available to use, the same goes for the driving range, a box of balls just on the hitting mat for you to use.
The staff are wonderful. I had initially booked in for the Monday but because there would be temporary greens on Monday, the club rang me and Angus on the other end of the phone moved me to the Friday instead and was very helpful in suggesting a 9.30 tee time as a large group were teeing off just after that and I would probably have been slowed down as I was playing on my own.
On arrival I went to the clubhouse to be greeted by Terry, who was so friendly. He offered me the use of the changing facilities and told me I was free to use the showers after my round if I wanted to, which I did as I needed to warm up.
Then there was John, my starter on the 1st tee. I hit my tee shot and barely went past the forward tee box, John just quietly said "tee up again" and I was off on my amazing round across this beautiful course.
Again, if you do play there, stop and soak in the views especially on the front 9. Looking out onto the Irish sea with views of the Skerries islands is just breath taking, even in November. I can only imagine what it is like in summer.
Thanks to all the staff for a brilliant experience.

In short, INCREDIBLE. Certainly deserves its ranking as the best dunes course in Ireland and one of the top ten in the world.........not that I have played them all.......but it would be difficult to surpass the incredible challeng of this course. With the right wind conditions it can bring a grown man to his knees........am I right Rory???
The condition of the course is perfection, the grounds crew should be congratulated for the wonderful job they do maintaining this course. Now, if you are an average golfer, then the Valley course is a little more enjoyable ( less calling oneself awful names) and yet still very well maintained.
What I love most about this course, is its lack of snootiness! The members are very welcoming and the staff bend over backwards to ensure you enjoy your visit......and that .....even when stretched during this pandemic. It is just a lovely place to be.

Overnight stay - hotel room was perfect but breakfast very disappointing. Left too long under the lights - soda bread has hard and inedible, potato bread thin and tasteless and what a vanilla pancake was doing on an Ulster Fry baffles me!!

Played the 148th Open competition organised by Royal Portrush and what a day. Was made to feel very welcome from we arrived until we left. Great day had by all and we were very pleased by all the members of this historic golf club staff. Very friendly and helpful. I would throughly recommend to pay it a visit. The course itself was very challenging but that's what you expect from a championship course. If you are a first time visitor I would highly recommend a caddy as local knowledge is invaluable. Not my first time visiting and definitely won't be my last.

Enjoyed a Monday Open day at Royal Portrush with Open Sunday pin positions. Made to feel extremely welcome from the moment I drove in through the front gates. Staff could not have been more friendly and welcoming. Excellent pro shop with a fine selection of mementos of the day.

Driving range and Trackman experience prior to teeing off were welcome opportunities to warm up. Definitely arrive 60-90 minutes early to make use of these facilities.

The course itself is immaculate and more than lived up to its billing. Tee boxes, fairways and greens are out of this world and the rough, whilst penal, generally will allow you to find a ball hit offline.

If you get the chance to play Royal Portrush Golf Club, definitely grab it with both hands!!

They kept the course on Open condition, and play the championship sunday pins in competition. You get to play the course as set up for Shane Lowry. Need to arrive 90min early, great breakfast, Driving range and trackman experience with Portrush first tee and advice from Alan Dunbar, who played in the Masters and Open. I reckon they should play 2 min course overview video also, from youtube with a bit of footage from the open, so you know how historic and cool the experience is going to be. Cool to hit trackman virtual of first hole and walk out and hit it for real. Expensive, but certainly brilliant. Live leaderboards on phone app, makes open competitions very exciting. Food options needs more lighter options on hot days, but nice. Best Open Course on the Roster.

We played here because its one of the top courses on the Island and for most golfers its on their bucket list.
When you play a top tier golf course you have high expectations and certainly Royal Portrush doesn't disappoint. From the moment we drove in to the car park the grounds staff, facility etc were all top class. The course is very tough especially when the wind blows but you have to expect that. The course itself was in pristine condition certainly there's a divot crew out daily and the fairways, tee boxes and greens were all well tended. Its expensive but value for money. Its a pity their neighbours in port Stewart can't turn out their course in a similar fashion....
Will certainly play Royal Portrush again.

A wonderful couple of days playing the Valley and the Dunluce courses. All the staff were so welcoming and helpful. The club is nice and relaxed and not at all stuffy as some of the grander clubs can be. They are rightfully proud of their courses and they genuinely want you to enjoy your time with them. The caddies were outstanding - super knowledgeable and friendly and really enhanced the experience.

A wonderful historic gold course toplay at. I hired a ady for my adventure in Golfing on this day, this person should have been a PGA Golfer on how he read the course, and kept an eye on my game!!! he lawns were well groomed, the best I've seen in the last twenty years of Golfing. My Sponsor for this day was First Class Golf Tours, recommend to me as the Premier Golf Outing Adventure in Ireland, As for a world class PGA Golf Instructor ask for Ryan Madigan, for his recommendation, for your next round of Golf in Ireland, Don't forget to have a great lunch at the Club House, an irish wiskey!! and of course dont forget to purchase a Royal Portrush Golf Club Hat, and a wonderful Golf Shirt, I did and this purchase will always remind me of the wonderful day in Ireland, that I spent with family nd friends!! This course is a MUST for all golfers...it’s long and tough but amazing!
The rough is cruel.. the greens impeccable...not to mention being knee deep in sand in the bunkers!!
The views are fabulous and if you are lucky enough to get good weather as we did last week and great company ( father & son from New York) this course should be on every golfers bucket list!
