Excellent ensuite room above bar. Room very clean and decorated in white. Bar a bit busy in these Covid times . Good breakfast in near by cafe provided.

Arrived at the Central bar anticipating a delicious lunch, as we had on many other occasions. We were directed to a great table, unfamiliar lay out, as bar has been updated since our last visit. So far, so good. Asked what drinks we would like, we ordered and they arrived soon after. Another waiter delivered our menus, he was absolutely stinking of cigarette smoke! Very off putting, to say the least! The menu was very uninspired, on previous visits it had been interesting with good variety. Anyhow we both ordered slow cooked roast beef with potatoes and seasonal vegetables. We were hungry having had a brisk walk along the north coast from Giants Causeway towards Portballintrae. Our food arrived, what a disappointment! The beef was a big “ slab” of reasonably tender pre cooked beef, certainly not freshly cooked n carved off a roast!! The roast potatoes were ready peeled n deep fat fried! Hard as rocks!! The veg was straight out of a bag of frozen veg n were cold when plated up n presented to us! All in all a serious disappointment compared to previous experiences. The ethos n atmosphere has dramatically changed, we will not be back!

We stopped here on our road trip just in time for a well deserved afternoon half pint each and a bowl of fish chowder to share. It's why we came to BallyCastle.....The Central Bar chowder was given high marks in a review article and we couldn't pass on the opportunity to try it. We were way more impressed than we expected and that says a lot. Fortunately, the bar was quiet that afternoon and the server/ chef explained the detail that they apply in making their chowder and it certainly showed.
